WHEN WE ARE LUCKY ENOUGH TO RUSTLE A CHICKEN I TAKE IT UNDER MY SHIRT OR COAT TO THE PIGGLY WIGGLY. I BRING IN THE CHICKEN ALL CUT UP. WHEN NOBODY IS AROUND I GO DOWN THE COFFEE AISLE. STOP OVER THE GRINDER THEY HAVE TO GRIND THE COFFEE BEANS. GET SOME PLASTIC BAGS OVER AT PRODUCE BERFORE YOU BEGIN. I BRING A RUBBER SPATULA TO TAMP DOWN THE CHICKEN PIECES INTO THEIR GRINDER. YOU HAVE TO BE SLICK AND CATCH THE GROUND CHICKEN INTO THE PLASTIC BAG. IF SOMEONE COMES DOWN THE AISLE JUST SMILE AND SHIELD THE GRINDER LIKE YOU ARE GRINDING COFFEE BEANS. WHEN YOU ARE DONE GTFO OF DODGE ASAP. THE GRINDER WILL BE A MESS AND THE FLOOR WILL LIKELY BE MESSY TOO. THATS WHY GROCERY CHAINS HAVE MAINTENANCE CREWS.
I MUST WARN YOU THE MANAGER OF THESE STORES CAN BE QUITE RUDE IF THEY CATCH YOU. SO STAY CLEAR OF THEM.

Hiya,
There's been quite a few great hints on here already, and I probably don't have much to add, other than I had a similar difficulty giving my pup Glycoflex 111 tabs - they're huge, and he really didn't like the smell/taste, so it was a job to get him to take them.. at nearly £60 a tub.. not sure what that is in $... probably around $100... I wasn't going to ditch them.
I feed raw, so it was easy enough to pulverise the tab in a little Salmon oil, and push the oily powder into a piece of bony meat such as breast of lamb or a chicken leg. He ate it okay like that. To be honest, these days, he just gets them given straight, as I can't be bothered to faff about. My food processor would have blown up too, for sure if I'd tried to grind up bone-in meat. I think you'd have to have a professional butcher's grinder - a domestic one just wouldn't be up to the job for long. Definitely would mix powdered supplements into an oil first, if I had to do it again though, and mix it with ground meat as part of the meal.

Get one of these to crush pills. Should then be able to mix with a good canned food that the dog likes,

Actually my dogs teeth are fine with grinding the chicken, never, ever get tatar build up because its not the bone that prevents it but the enzymes in the raw meat vs kibble. Also it is a great place to "hide" anything. You can't hide pills, ground veggies etc. in a chicken leg. Can they eat chicken bones? Of course. They get marrow bones for recreational chewing because the can eat knuckle bones. It takes me about 10 minutes to grind 4 chickens and it lasts 3-4 days depending on how big they are. I usually do small batches so I don't have to refreeze.

I'm not convinced that the bone doesn't do it. A friend of mine had a two year old Dobie in advanced stages of periodontal disease; the gums were so bad you could barely see any teeth. We fed him nothing but pork necks for two or three weeks and he had sparkling clean teeth sticking right out of the gums. After that we got him onto a properly balanced prey model diet.

Sueincc's method has worked for me. I watched a friend feed pills to a GSD that previously would not take a pill no matter how you disquised it. It was very funny to watch. She got the treat jar down, filled her hands with several treats along with the pills. She didn't even try to hide the pills. She started sweet talking the dog, got the dog all excited over the prospect of getting a treat and then started feeding them to her. She gave her a couple of treats to "prime the pump so to speak" and then started giving her pills in between treats. That dog was so estatic over getting all this attention and treats to boot she just gulped the pills down as if they were treats. The friend was quick with a treat after a pill, waving it under the dog's nose so the dog didn't even think about spitting it out, just about getting her jaws around another tasty morsel. Funny thing is, the dog wasn't even her dog! She just took over when her friend was at her wits end on how to medicate the dog. Sometimes it helps when someone else gets involved that isn't so stressed about whether or not the dog takes the pill. Dogs can sense when you are stressing over something. Lots of good tips here. Hope it gets easier for you.

get some chicken hearts. they have a hole in the top that you can slip pills into, and they're too small for the dog to chew. so they looove them, but will swallow them whole (with the pill).
