lol wow I never knew that there was so much an issue with petsmart. I just need to stop being soft around people I just don't like to be rude or mean. When people see me they automatically think I have an attitude until they talk to me. I guess my face expression isn't the best when first meeting.

Yeah I'm new to the whole sport thing with a dog. I don't belong to a club. I've taken her to a few people for evaluation for protection work because I was interested in PSA. Upon evaluating her she lacks confidence. So many trainers said it will cost me a lot of money to train her to be ppd and she will never be the best. Now I'm interested in agility or fly ball because she has extreme crazy ball drive so I know she would do well in either of those two sports. But if she can't relax around other dogs then we will have a problem and i look like a complete fool when I can't get her under control.

I have a friend who will be competing her ring next year. So every chance I get i go and watch her train and educate my self about sports that evolve protection work before I just leap to doing it. If I can't handle a single dog in getting her to focus on me then what makes me think I'll be able to handle a dog in ppd or any other sport.

I try to get my dog out and do obedience on walks, at the dog park, friends house with her dogs around, etc. I guess its aggravating and fustrating at times when the dog doesn't want to listen in public (dogs). Honestly,  part of it probably does have to do with me not being consistent with things. I stick with it anyways because she is my only dog....although I really really want a gsd badly I can't because I'm finishing up prerequisites to get ready to apply for dental school and take the entrance exam. I want to start over and do it the right way (join a club and have guidence through out the training).

olskoolgsd you are hilarious in your post!

Sueincc I tried to answer you in the above paragraphs. I like the phrase "proof distraction" yeah that is where my problem lies she has a big problem listening to me when other dogs are in the area. That is what I need to work on BIG TIME! Let me tell you...this dog ..awhile ago use to dart at of the yard to chase people down just to say hello. Now, she doesn't do it anymore because we work on it but let it be a deer she is gone not listening to me yelling her name to come. She will be gone for about 30sec to a min and then she comes back running in the yard. That makes me upset because we can be playing ball in the yard or doing something outside and once she sees a deer, cat or any type of animals she zips and shes gone. One day if shes not watching she will get him by a car ....i just know it it will be bout my luck. I live on a acre and 1/2 lot so my drive is extremely long so she never sees the car coming running at full blast.

schluterton its okay it happens I should have wrote clearer. I type fast and don't reread , trying to keep up with everyones post. But yeah, I won't take another class there. When I try to call to set up an appoint to do bitework at a top k9 facility in my area they asked if she had obedience training. I said yes...they said from what facility and i told them. So they started laughing on the phone and said i would have to redo obedience at their facility to intermediate before I could enroll in bitework classes or I have to be evaluated from the instructor. According, to my friend who is very knowledge about dogs and sports she said I probably wouldn't have a chance. Her on leash is good off leash is okay until other dogs are involved and her comes are not very straight. She tries to sit diagonal from me when you call her into a come.

This is what i hate the most...when people come and say oh what a cute doberman you got and touch the dog with out asking. Although she is extremely friendly when people do that dog talk she gets hyper waggy her behind just to get a rub down. Petsmart people don't ask can they have the leash to teach you anything they grab it and do what they want to demostrate things to you. Which I disgree I need to be more firm with people in general because I tend not to be mean. But quote me on this I wish they would when I get my gsd everything will be done totally different (no touching). There is alot of things that go into pp and I have to own up to it and commit. I've been researching gsd since 2005, learning about the sports, liability that can occur, etc quite sometime. I'm not into a big rush to go out and do things without researching and educating myself first.

olskoolgsd,

Hello back. I have missed you. How are you doing?

Ray Allen is overpriced and, in my opinion, the things they make are often of inferior quality. If it is something they sell for another company, plan on paying a lot more. That was why I made the comment. When I take my European friends there, they almost never buy anything and would certainly agree with my comments. But, to each his own.

regards!
