I DO!

by AKVeronica60 on 27 February 2009 - 18:02

I wouldn't keep a very large snake with a very small child, that's asking for trouble, but I've met some affiable snakes, if you want to call them that, who would rather spend time with their person than on a nice heating pad in their cage.  They seemed to look forward to their people time.  I like snakes.  Veronica

ball pythons are not constrictors, however, i would never leave a small child with one unattended.  as a whole, ball pythons are very easy to get along with........for those who like snakes. ;)

pythons are not constrictors?  Didn't know that - that makes me change my mind about that a little bit - I was thinking - how completely stupid, all that snake would have to do is squeeze a little and that kid would be history, whether she could swallow him or not - dead is dead.  Still, wouldn't trust that big of a snake around a kid that small.  Nope.

I think lucky's just waiting for the kid to plump up a bit more.

Rat snakes aren't constrictors either, they still squeezed their feeder mice until their eyes popped out. I never owned a snake I really liked, lizards have more personality.

I'd not have my kid with a snake that big. I wouldn't even lay myself down there with it, they are too  heavy and strong, also I can't "read" a snake as well as a dog.

Moons, that's fin' funny!

i don't know about all pythons....since i am not a snake person, but i was told by a fella who kept them, that they very rarely constricted on a human - mice and rats are food ofcourse.  different story.

Sorry ziegenfarm but I have to disagree that pythons are not constrictors.  See source below.

All Pythons are constrictors.  Snakes that hunt using constriction as a means of subduing prey will very quickly grab their prey with their teeth using a very fast strike. The constrictor will quickly wrap coils of their bodies around the prey and squeeze or constrict the prey item.  This process does not actually crush the prey and break its bones as is widely reported in the media.  Instead, they squeeze tightly so that the prey animal can’t breath and it suffocates, this process usually requires about 3-4 minutes for the prey animal to be killed.
