Thanks, RockyMud. I think people really lower their standards when it comes to black dogs. Or they think they all look the same! LMAO! I can't tell you how many times someone tells me they have a dog who looks "exactly" like Caleb. They are usually black dogs, but that's where the similarities end, lol. We shouldn't accept any less from black dogs than any other color, although it is VERY hard to get a good picture of a black dog that truly shows their structure and substance.

Jenni, he is a stunner. Beautiful and such a nice coat. That's the kind of head and bone I am talking about. Don't like the spindly blacks anymore than I like a thinner bone in any color.

4pack, I hear ya. Black makes bone look even less substantial. I always find good black dogs look better in person, although a good black coat looks great in the sun. While breeding should be done for temperament and utility, I am not a fan of the snipey noses, thin faces, weak lower jaws, short canines, and general "mal- like" appearance that a lot of working lines seem to be morphing into. While it's harder to find dogs who are good in ALL areas, it's not impossible. We have enough dogs; why not only breed the best?

WORD.

by RockyMud on 06 February 2009 - 23:02

Jenni,
I would have to agree everything you said. People seem not to care about the standards anymore. There are some people who do not even come close to having a standard female or male, and still breed, yet what do they produce? Nothing for the breed.

4pack-
I agree 100%.

In any color shepherd, I prefer blocky built; bigger heads and bodies. There are only a few dogs that I have seem and truly fell in love with them.

Not to change the subject of the thread from searching for a black stud to breeding & standards, but (sorry Moon, just gotta) why can't people just love the breed enough to spay and neuter the ones that are not proven enough to make better German Shepherds, not a shepherd in husky, mal, etc clothing.

You might want to check out a very nice male that is producing better than himself. There will be quite a few of his offspring getting titles this spring.

Atze might be an outstanding dog... how does he produce in terms of structure? I personally wouldn't breed to a "G" dog; I would breed a great SG to a V, but I would stay away from "G". Goes back to "the best of the best" mentality. JMO.

atze is an outstanding dog that is gaining popularity here in the south. i would breed to him in a heartbeat if i had the right female.

Kelly Shaw,
I know what your talking about my bitch does show white at the base of hairs but that is not the origin of the white spots.

aero 993,
You are too far away.

candis and missbeeb,
I do not really want to ship puppies, something might be worked out I don't know.

Mystere....? what dog?

Shelley,
I look at Mollys website from time to time, nice dogs, kinda far away, no titles anytime soon here.

Sunsilver,
My car won't make it to Poland.

Waves at 4pack,
I'm still waiting for that ride to the west coast.  The wife says good ridience.

Ronnie your right on...... as usual...LOL

Thank you everyone, good to hear from you all.

I have plenty of time to look around, if things don't work out I might not breed at all.   The original plan was to keep one for myself but that didn't work out last time around.     And there is always the same stud as before if I can forget about the white spot.  He's definately got the right stuff in every other way.

The state of the economy may decide this for me too, ya never know.

Who else out there has a solid black?
Ind,  Ky,  Illinois ?
Possibly a stud not black who throws black pups.

Moons.
