I'm getting ready to send my 2-year-old German Sheperd to a place called Kreative Kennel in California for family protection training, he will be there for 1 year... What do you think?

You don't wanna know and I don't really wanna say.

Its just not something I personally would ever do.

Calito,
What is it that you want, or expect from protection training?  Agree with two moons.

We have posted video of their dogs and training here and discussed it before. Maybe do a search of Kreative Kennels here. I doubt you will find much good.

Personally, I would hope anybody that would be allowed to own a protection trained German Shepherd be required to know how to spell German Shepherd.

I suspect given the purposeful vagueness of this post and the absence of previous posts that this person is aware of existing threads and really trying to hold Kreative Kennels up as a punching bag.

All personal protection dog's while worked should be worked with their handler (at least this is my opinion). This help establish strong bond, as well you learn limitation of your dog.  Plus people usually need more training than their dogs lol hahaha.

First, your dog needs to learn to protect YOU, not their trainer. You don't think after a year the dog will be very bonded to them?  What you need to do, is take your dog once or twice a week to a local, qualified, PPD trainer. After a year you will have a very well trained dog that will protect you, and for probably much less money.

I would hope, since you said you had a family, that these trainers have thoroughly educated you on handling a PPD, and the responsibilites of owning one, and the changes everyone who knows you will have to make.  Forget about all your friends and family just walking into your house without knocking. Do you have kids? Their friends, when they come over, will have to understand what the can and cannot do around the dog.  Some dogs can have an on/off switch, other you will turn on a switch that will never be turned off. Have they told which your dog is? Explained the difference?

This is a weighty decision, my friend. Think long and hard about it as there will be no taking it back.

DON'T DO IT!  That's my opinion for what it's worth!

I agree with most of the people that tell you not to do it.   I made that mistake myself with my dog was not a good experience.  It is much better to enroll to a trainer and take class you an your dog.  It will much more realiable.

my 2cnts.

I think - you have more money than sense. YOU need to do the work, not someone else, and not for a year. How bonded to you and your family do you think your dog will be when he comes back? Read the above posts and take their advice - if you don't, I think you are asking for trouble, and a lot of it.
