My dog split a nail up the middleand exposed the quick, the broken piece has broken off but it won't stop bleeding whenever she goes out. Can anyone offer some help

Have  you tried holking a bar of soap to it for a few minutes?

tried that but she keeps licking it and it keeps opening

place a few pieces of tissure and apply pressure.

or press a bar of soap on the nail

go to the vet and let him burn it closed.

Had a similar problem, but my vet removed the nail. The dog had no further problems, liz

Try using super glue.  Just might do the trick.

you might need to cut the nail at the base, if the dog will let you.  Then use quick stop and a light bandage for a day or so.

otherwise you might need to head the vet, with some anesthetic help.    :)

Super glue, I didn't think of that - I'm going to put it in our puppy first aid kit.

Super glue (use a NEW container) is the same as the liquid sutures Vets use. With a split nail where it can't easily be removed completely it's probably the best answer. You might use quickstop initially to stop the bleeding, but putting the glue on the crack should keep it from becoming reinjured and opening up again. If that fails see your vet about having the remaining nail removed. Then bandaging will be necessary to keep them from licking banging etc and re-opening it.
