Breeding and Pedigrees? - Page 1

 Hi, I'm new here and just wanted to know what everyone's views on breeding and pedigrees are. Will you only breed to pedigreed dogs? Or are "looks", health, and temperament what you look for? 

 What do you mean by pedigree,all dogs have a pedigree if there mutts or show dogs everyone has a momma and poppa.

      For the most part, people here ARE VERY SERIOUS, about German Shepherds. Titles, OFA, etc., etc., are rather important.

      Hate to say it, but you really should have researched the Database before you asked that question. Good Luck to ya!

stick around, hon.  there's quite a few of us have had gsds for 20, 30 or 40 yrs.  you can learn some things you need to know and also determine what you don't want.

as far as pedigrees go, they can give you an idea of what a dog is, but training will give you an idea of what he can be.

if we all started breeding to none pedigree dogs thats the breed finished?!!!

Im not sure if I understand where this is going...

so in answer to your question I would only ever breed my dogs to another pedigree. 

for me structure, temprament and the strength of the dog matters the most. there are different preference of different people, some like the phenotype ( Structure) but some like the genotype(pedigree, bloodline) and some give equal preference to both. it is up to you, how you would like to base your breediing program.
