Every post here tells of what a great genuine man we have lost from our midst.  Paul Rattigan sums Harry up very well, and others say that never an unkind word about anyone was heard.... what a legacy.  Please let us all remember that Bill has told us here,  that Rose mainly will only have us doggy folk to keep her going... dont let her be lonely, when the funeral is over and a few weeks have passed, its all too easy to think that those that are left are getting over it.  Rose will benefit from hearing from every one of us, it will remind her of what a great man Harry was, and how well thought of.  I heard the news at Working and Pastoral ion Scotland yesterday morning when Linda Barclays arrived, and the class was stopped for a moment while everyone was informed by Jessie Mowbray. This seemed very fitting for such a great man.  The very first stud dog I ever used belonged to Harry and Rose.  Emmevale Zaroff and if I live to be 90  (I`m getting near) I could never forget the way Harry and Rose took me under their wing with my first litter due - phone calls, advice, help, all time spent out of the goodness of their hearts - and although I never had to - I was told to ring them at any time of the day and night......

There is a post on here from some-one called Alfie asking what makes a good breeder.   Rose and Harry Emmett are best examples, and a lovely man as well.   He will be so missed at shows.      Mo and all at Mascani

So very sorry to hear of the passing of a true gentleman - went on a couple of the Rose and Harry trips and they were great.  My thoughts are with Rose at this sad time.

It was with great sadness this evening that I learned of the sad and untimely passing of Harry Emmett. I have spent many a Sieger Show listening to his uncluttered wisdom in relation to our breed, alongside Bill Owen & Paul Rattigan. The three had several things in common, the most memorable of which was a reluctance to find their way to the bar. Sticky seat syndrome. Joke. The first Bundessiegerzuchtschau I ever attended was in 1992 in Dusseldorf, which was run by Harry and Rose. In almost all of the years since I have always taken pleasure in talking to Harry in relation to our breed and his simple, yet far-seeing logic in relation to both judging and breeding will stay with me forever.

Harry judged Shepherds as a specialist judge at a huge all-breed show in Swords in Ireland way back in the day, I think 1979. A huge entry. My young male Oldenburg Baldur won Limit Dog and Green Star and eventually BOB. I was twenty three years of age and it was my first Green Star & BOB. What a boost. The line up was resplendent with champions and near champions but he knew none of the dogs and just simply judged what he saw on the day. How refreshing it would be if our modern day judges used the same simple and honest criteria. His critiques were absolutely clinical, pure Harry Emmett. It is unfortunate that his considerable talents have not been put to better use in the UK.

On behalf of Stephanie and myself I send my deepest condolences to the “Great” Rose. I will contact her by phone in the not too distant future when things settle down somewhat to express my personal message of sympathy.

My deepest sympathies.

Bob Duff, Ireland.

Hiya Bob,

I'm sorry i never rang you to tell you personally of Harry's passing.

I endorse everything you have written about our dear old friend, he made it look and sound so easy when he judged, it does beggars belief why his great knowledge was not more extensively utilised: but as we both know only too well, we live in a society where age and experience is no longer valued as the virtue it really is: ( much to our shame ) . I'm sure that if Harry is looking down on us, he will be smiling, wondering what all the fuss is about, by the way we have always thought of you as an honorary member of our gang, that why you had to go to the bar a lot.

I am hoping to get up to see Rose tomorrow and will pass on yours and Stephs condolences, along with all the other postings that people have been kind enough to express. Say an eternal rest for him, and a prayer for Rose.

Regards

Paul Rattigan.

Both David I were deeply saddened to learn of the loss of one of the great stalwarts of the breed.  Niether of us knew him very well but over the last few years in particular, both of us had the fortunate opportunity to have a couple of fairly in depth conversations with Harry about the breed and dogs of the day at some of the shows.  We found him to be exremely knowldegable and very helpful to us with little snippets of gold (advice) that he gave us.  He will be very sadly missed.

Sincerest condolences to his closest friends and family.  We are thinking of you at this time.

Harry was a breeder with a talent, as a person I have handled dogs to CC's for him as well as awarding his dogs CC's.

Dedicated to the breed Harry and Rose throughout the years have entertained the GSD fraternity, firstly by introducing bloodlines that have changed the breed in the UK and secondly by his laid back character. I remember handling Zoe of Sanbiase to her third CC under Harry at West Yorkshire GSD in Harrogate in the 1980's, when shaking my hand he said "young man we will discuss your handling techniques over a drink, on you of course".

A friendly voice, who advised and helped all who needed his in-depth knowledge, his invaluable contribution to take so many UK GSD enthusiast to the German Sieger Show.

Harry was an excellent breeder and judge but more importantly he was a man who helped other exhibitors to achieve their dreams, a man that will be sadly missed.
