BESS

Hope you don't mind me starting a new thread but having just read Paul Rattigan's memories from the 1984 Two Day show I thought I'd take up his prompting to discuss the Best Two Day Shows ever....

Paul's brilliant story telling brought tears to my eyes when he gave his commentary on the Open Bitch class, I'd already floated down memory lane remembering some of the great dogs/bitches he named but it was the part which mentioned the crowd willing the amazing Bedwins Fantasia on to win the class.  This year at the Sieger show many people commented on the Italian's support of their homebred dogs - years ago we all used to do exactly the same thing;  cheering and encouraging our own personal favourites at the Two Day was a regular occurence - we all became part of the class and genuinely appreciated the dogs we were watching and secretly coveted.

My personal Two Day Show favourite was 1989 - GSD Club of Wales at Caldicot Castle.
Dogs: Owe Buchmann
Bitches: The late, great Walter Martin

Dog CC - Int Ch Rosehurst Chris
Dog RCC - Ch Bedwins Pirol
Bitch CC - Ch Middross Mica
Bitch RCC - Ch Catja of Vornlante

What a fantastic spectacle of judging, particularly from Walter Martin - 60 Minor Puppy bitches - judged and sorted in ONE HOUR won by the lovely Ch Amondahl Melissa.  That class set the precedent for the whole weekend. The two Junior winners; litter brother & sister owned by Ivan & Gladys Salmon and Malcolm Griffiths Bedwins Fedor & Farah.  The stunning Yearling bitch winner Ch Catja of Vornlante and one of my personal favourites Ch Middross Mica.
I remember Wayne Vessey, so drunk on Saturday night that he ended up sleeping in the wet weather tent - on Sunday morning Martin Schneider handled his dog Kelnik Finnian to win the Post Grad dog class - what a way to cure a hangover.

It was a fantastic weekend - the majority camped - we enjoyed the Miss GSD Competition at the 'do' on Saturday evening with some well known men dressed specially for the competition - there was also Janice Johnson (Centilla Solitaire), in her Miss Shammy Leather outfit (you had to see it - if you had you'd remember it)

God what I wouldn't give to be able to go back to those days. Look forward to reading about your memories and thanks Paul for prompting such a great topic.

I'm glad you liked the 1984 piece Sharon, but yes, your right the 1989 show was a fabulous show both day and night.  I remember buying a case of lager for two under aged drinkers namely Steven Cox and Colin Garwood, i left it with them  while i went into the town for a meal, and when i returned, they told me that somebody must have stolen it whilst all the lights had failed. (  A likely tale ).   I share Joyce's sentiments entirely, happy days.

Regards Paul.

Yes, That was a really great show.... anyone knowing Sue Kay wil remember that she has not been a small lady for many years, and Monica Henley and I were camping, when Sue drew up in her little morris minor car... pitched a small one man tent and as Monica and I (very naughty) awaited to see if she would fit inside it..... we were surprised that she came and asked if she could get changed into her night attire in our tent - a rather posh jobby that we had borrowed.  We duly waited for her to return to her little bivouac next to ours to see if she would fit into it - and were absolutely cracked up all night at the sight of Sue, emptying her car into the tent  -  food, food, and yet more tins of cakes and drinks etc., then settling into her car for her nights sleep.  Isnt it mad the things you remember a good show for !   Mo - Mascani.

We believe this photo was taken at the 1989 Two Day Show. VIDEX Kennel Group (above) was second to BEDWINS Kennel Group. We had 1st & 2nd in Minor puppy (66 dogs?) Videx Aiko & Arak, 3rd in Limit Dog? and 3 females.
Do you recognise the "young" handlers?? We are sure many will! Very Happy Days!!!!

Great photo David, especially as it  shows the late: great :Tony Howson,  probably at the zenith of his handling career.

Regards Paul.
