My male has a discharge coming from one eye.  His eye doesn't appear red or inflamed.  This discharge is whitish.  Any ideas what this could be?  I tried to get a picture but they aren't coming out clear enough to see it.  It's just his right eye, his left is fine, no discharge.  My room mate had "pinkeye" about a month ago...could my dog have caught it?  This is my first experience with any eye discharge so I'm clueless.

It's after 5 and my vet just closed for the weekend....so I'm trying not to panic unless I need to.  Thanks all!

Has he been in a draught?I am not qualified to say wether or not he could have picked it up from your room mate. What i would do is bath it with warm cotton wool and dab dry, watch for any redeye as it can be very uncomfortable.

I would take him to the vets first thing monday morning if it persists. My old male is 13 now and he has to have eye drops from time to time as his eyes get very watery sometimes, the vet says it can occur in older dogs, apart from this he is  a very happy boy and i see every day with him a bonus,

So have it checked out for his sake.

Upon close inspection, he'd got a hair in his eye.  (I don't see well, my room mate found it as soon as he got home).  Carefully removed it and he's fine today.  I need a magnifying glass.  Thanks for the help.  :)
