SANZA

I need help to know if I can use cattle Ivomec in a GSD Female (12 months old) to cure Demodex Mange.

She is a top sport prospect that had Demodex 6 months ago and succsfully treated with Milbemycin Oxime, but now when submited to a stress during her treinement showed the desease again.

I got the suggestion to use 3cc (3ml) of IVOMEC once a week until two consecutives negative skin scraps.

It looks fine but other people told me that this treatment with IVOMEC could commit the FERTILITY of the GSD Female.

I want to know if IVOMEC at this intensive level can cause any damage to her fertility or other colateral effect.

Thanks,

     SANZA

Asking your vet is always best !

I have heard that it will cause abortion in Goats if used.

As for dog I can only tell you my personally experiences. I have been using Ivomec  for over 7 years now and have had no problems proventing heartworms. I have used Ivomec POUR ON for everything else ear mites, flies and manage. And it is priced cheaper.

I agree with Ek von Earnhardt ask your vet, My personal experience with Ivomectin is good I use it on my Adult dogs once a month for heartworm protection, I do not use it 2 month before breeding a female and during pregnancy, once the pups are weaned and 8 weeks old I get the mom checked by my Vet before I start her back on Ivomectin.

Talk to your Vet about it befor you use it.

Like said above, definately go to your vet.  But , while you are there talk about the dosage you mentioned earlier.

I personally would use .8-1.0 cc every day for 30 days

I also would not use it close to breeding , whelping ,or nursing

You also might consider putting her on Immune boosting supplements.  To help her defenses on a regular basis, if she is easily stressed and this is going to happen often for her.

I use about a table spoon full of Vegetable oil  as well as

Pethealth OPC- very powerful Antioxidants

Pethealth Multivitamin

you can see both at this link

I can't answer your question, but I wouldn't be breeding a female that has demodex - that type of thing is all too often genetic :(

I have actually seen pine tar used very successfully on Demodectic mange. I have also seen ivermectin horse paste rubbed into mange spots work fantastic. Very quickly. I agree to boost the immune sytem also. Ester c. If the dog is young it should do well.

1/10 cc of Ivomec per 10 lbs of canine body weight. Give one Sub Q injection every seven days for 3 consecutive doses. That is one shot, wait 7 days, give a second shot, wait 7 more days, and then give a third shot. This is a very effective treatment for both mange mites and ear mites. Ivomec has no effect on fertility.

I have used Ivomec for years and had no problems with fertility.Use 1/10 cc per 10 lbs. It also gets

most of the internal parasites and I never have fleas or ticks and never use any of the expensive

frontline, advantage or anything else. Several reccomended asking your vet. Not many vets are

going to go along with Ivomec for two reasons. Ivomec is so cheap and it is not indicated for dogs.

I had two vets, man and wife, come to buy a pup and they asked what I used for worms. I told them

Ivomec and they looked at each other with a big grin. I didn't know at that time they were vets.  They

told me they were vets after I told them I use Ivomec and they said that is the same thing they use.

Hudson, Abhay, B.Andersen, Phgsd, Jamile, EKvonEarnhardt and delacruz germanshepherds,

Thank all of you for your oppinion. I will take them in consideration before apply any treatment.

By the way, my vet came with a mew drug, from Bayer Pet, called ADVOCATE with label prescriprion for Demodex and other types of mange.

I will try it and later post the results in this messageboard.

Thanks again,

     SANZA.

Manage is not genetic ! It would be like you saying fleas are genetic, they are an out side parasite So they can ot be genetic NOW a low immune system can be in some cases.

One has to take everything in when making that statement. IS the dog in a stressfull enviroment? too much training too soon, highly active home where the puppy is in  stress most of the day?, is it sick? , what about diet? or is it a combination of switching homes,  not being weaned right and long enough? shipping? all these and more can take down an immune system specially in a young puppy. Which seems to be the high cases of manage but surpisely go away after "settling in"  in most cases

Feeding a good diet and boosting the vit C and B's, lowering stress levels for the puppy seems to help.
