Two Moons

by Two Moons on 16 May 2008 - 02:05

The male was born in germany and is in the usa now with german sv papers.  I haven't changed his registration yet and wondered if I even had to in order to be able to breed him to an AKC bitch here and register the puppy's AKC.

I'll probably give AKC a call and see.   I'll take the path of least resistance.

Two moons: If a bitch is imported bred/PREGNANT, then she would have to be AKC registered and DNAed before her pups would be AKC registerable, but the SIRE would NOT need AKC registered since he's not here in the US. Thus SV+AKC= AKC pups. Special stud registry (breed certificate like mentioned by Veronica)and copy of the stud's German SV paperwork & scorebook if he's titled all comes with such situations(should be included with the paperwork for a bred female), so additional paperwork has to be had in order AKC to register an imported female's litter. It's a little complicated to explain. I have handled the paperwork for AKC registering 1 pregnant imported female's litter, so this is all accurate info.

If both parents reside here in the US and the litter is conceived on American soil, then yes, you need AKC registration papers & DNA profile (DNA profile is required for all foreign dogs-effective March 2006 with the AKC) for both parents to register a litter with the AKC.

Yes, 2 Moons-if you plan on breeding him, you need to get him transferred into YOUR name with the German SV on his papers, recieve your bescheinigung (which is a little letter on German SV letterhead stating your dog with German SV# ---- by breeder ----- with DOB ----- is officially registered in YOUR name with the German SV), then apply for AKC foreign dog registration, then DNA profile him. I've done this start to finish and it takes about 3-4 months from sending to the German SV in Germany to get a GSD transferred into my name with the German SV to getting my dog's AKC papers processed and sent to me from the AKC to getting a DNA profile submitted and processed. It's time consuming, so if you have breeding plans, it's better to start it now rather than waiting until a female is bred and expecting his pups, then start.

The paperwork is already done in my name with the SV on the male.

I have seen sire's with SV number's on pedigree's bred to AKC registered dam's and the offspring having AKC registration numbers and thats what I was wondering about.

Still I will call AKC and find out from them I guess whats all involved.  The pup's only 5 months old so I have plenty of time to figure it out I guess.

Two Moons:   The sv number shown on Akc pedigrees to an aKC FEMALE  just didnt show an akc number because it shows that first the dog was imported and akc number just wasnt brought forward on the paperwork...If male is here and bred here to an AKC registered female, import or not, you cannot register the pups.

If you dont transfer over now, and you breed , with it like it is now, still in only SV,, you will have a  mess to unravel with AKC. and the owners of the pups, or you will have to keep them until you get all parents with proper papers.    iT REALLY IS NOT MUCH HASSLE.   Zico was only about  two months to get his papers thru and Mahon even had to run an trace on his titles to see what was really correct as their was an error on some of the papers...

He talked directly to the terrifically nice lady at the AKC SV office in Germany and she was very thorough in her explanation as to what he had to do...you cant just get info from Germany with out certified and notorized paperwork.

Ought to be that way here with AKC and we wouldnt have so many crooked paper work done by byb.

All of my paperwork shows the SV number first and not the akc numbers. If you want akc numbers published on paperwork , you have to put it there.
