 Boxer,

First of all, did you get a paper called a "Bescheinigung"? This is a document than indicates that the dog was sold to you. you cannot register the dog with AKC without this paper.

Secondly, do you have the pink paper that says "Ahnentafel" on it at the top? On that pink paper, at the back page, the previous owner/breeder should have already signed that he/she sold the dog. Sometimes they fill in the new owner information, but sometimes they do not and you have to do it.

Start by answering these questions and we can probably help you, assuming all the paperwork is in order.

Boxer, I sent you two PMs, both on how the signature page of the registration looks, and also my webpage with addresses, email address, and phone numbers of the person and departments in the SV to both get your AKC Bescheinigung and all the steps for getting your AKC registration.  Good luck, Veronica

If you do not register your dog with AKC and later on you breed to an AKC dog with your SV registered dog what is involved if you want the pups to have AKC registration?

Is it easier just to change registry now?

I also have an import female I need to register with AKC. I did not import her, but bought her from the person who did. I have her pink papers. Is there something else I need?

Go to www.akc.org, go to registration---> downloadable forms---> foreign dog registration form

Two Moons, you will have to register the bitch with the AKC, then when you have your AKC registration number, you have to send in a DNA kit, and all this has to be done before you can register the litter with the AKC.  Sometimes the DNA part takes a long while to come back to you...call often so that you can get the number and go ahead to register the litter before the DNA certificate comes back to you.  They WON'T call you.  If your bitch were already bred, your litter would likely be on the ground and getting ready to wean before all of your paperwork is finished, if not already gone on to new homes with impatiently waiting owners.

Rockinkranch, if the first person did not register the bitch, but he has signed the SV papers, then you are the "second US owner" according to the AKC Foreign Dog Registration application.  It is possible that you could put the bitch directly into your own name, bypassing the need to fill out the second US owner part, IF the first US owner did not sign the SV papers.   If they did sign the papers, you have to fill out the second US owner part of the AKC Foreign Dog Registration.  I am not sure if you have to do a transfer as well, I have never had to do the second owner part, BUT, when you download the Foreign Dog Registration application, it comes with comprehensive instructions.

Here on my webpage, on # 7and #8 entries, is the entire sequence of steps you need to take to get a Beschienigung and to get your foreign dog registered with the AKC, complete with mail address, name of the person in charge, email address, and phone number for that department at the SV:   http://www.worthykennels.com/Internetdogbuying.html

I think that the AKC no longer requires pictures of both sides of the dog, just one.  That was what was on the most recent AKC foreign dog registration application instructions on for the application I sent in, but I sent both sides anyway.

I hope that helped.

Veronica

Thanks Veronica,

But what if one decides not to change sv to akc?    What about breeding sv to akc?    How would the litter be registered?

I've seen this on pedigree's  SV X AKC = AKC offspring.     Its sounds like a lot of trouble.  I was just curious as to if I had to switch over the registration from the SV on my pup.

Hi Two Moons,

I am not sure I understand you correctly.

If you want to keep the bitch registered with the SV though she resides in the USA, but breed to an AKC registered dog in the USA, I am not sure how that is done.  It seems a tangled thing to deal with.  I always thought that, if it was born in the USA, it had to be registered with the AKC.  However, other members of this forum said that is not so in a discussion on this topic more than a year ago.  Sorry, I cannot help you there.

If the sire resides outside the USA, but the bitch was imported pregnant, you need the Breeding Certificate from the breeder, a copy of the pedigree of the sire, and you will need to do a Special Litter Registration application when the sire of the litter resides outside the USA.  Go to downloadable forms, and download Special Litter Registration application and it also has comprehensive instructions that will help you figure out what you need to do.

Good luck, Veronica
