I grabbed a bag of this since there are no by-products and there is a gsd on the front. What do you think? Any experience with this food anybody?

Ask Nuto Max   what Menadione is and why is it in the natural dog food and their Holistic Food..."?   It is a chemical...chemicals are not natural nor organic...

And if you believe what they tell you     .....have at it....

A bathtub is natural ingredients and so is the steering wheel of a car made of natural ingredients and so are ;my boots..but I sure wouldnt eat them or feed them to my dog..and certainly not a food with a chemical that the   fuzzy people at FDA wouldnt pass for human consumption, to be fed to my dog.

Enough other chemicals they come in contact to fight with their liver, pancreas and immune systems....

What would be a good dry food?

by Larrydee on 27 April 2008 - 11:04

Take a look at Orijen right now I'd steer clear of any Nutro kibble.   www.championpetfoods.com.  There are quite a few members on this forum that are quite happy with Orijen.

Innova or anything made by California Naturals, Merrick......Natures Variety to name a few even though kibble is not our thing here...

Lastly, natural is not always a good thing.. poison ivy and arsenic are two very natural things.. neither is very good for you though

Remember... Heavy marketing of a product doesn't necessarily mean a great product.  They are only paid to brain wash the masses and lead you to believe that their product is the only one to feed your dog...

I prefer feeding raw all natural when possible, but this is the kibble I use, it costs me $30.99 for
a 40lb bag....www.vonryansgermanshepherds.com/whatmydogseat.htm

My dogs seem to be healthy, happy and full of life!!!

Nutro makes my dogs itch

by Alexis on 27 April 2008 - 15:04

The one thing that I have noticed in dogs that are fed Nutro is the size, color and awful smell of the dogs waste. It seems larger in quantity, softer, lighter in color and I've been able to smell it from the other side of the yard when a dog is out going potty. I have never personally fed this food to my own dogs, but have had rescue dogs or boarders here that were fed it. One rescue was here nearly two months and came eating Nutro. One of my own dogs started eating her waste so I switched her to Innova and all of above mentioned problems went away. It has been a few years since I've had any personal experience with this food so things may have changed, but I've seen and read enough to not feed this food to any of my own pets.

Yahoo has a group called K9Nutrition:

http://pets.groups.yahoo.com/group/K9Nutrition/

You must join first, but there is lots of good information about feeding and supplementing dogs there. It is not a GSD based group, but it is still a good place to get information and links about dog foods.

RichoGSD mentioned it above, but The Dog Food Project is a great site with lots of information:
