National for Germany

by hodie on 23 April 2008 - 19:04

Laura, it stands for the Bundessiegerprüfung, which is the national schutzhund championship of Germany.

Thanks people.

Can i ask why it frequently appears on working GSD pedigrees in addition to WUSV/FCI.....and why is it less common to find USA national winner fro example. Is the BSP considered a very high standard.., or very prestigious....? Can dogs outside of Germany take part....i presume not as it is the German nationals. Sorry for the stupid questions.

Not stupid questions at all. The BSP is basically a performance championship for all qualified GSD's, regardless of the country of residence. More emphasis is placed on the dog's ability to work correctly than it is for 100% conformation to the S.V.'s breed standard.

Just don't confuse the BSP with the BSZS (Bundesieger-Zuchtshau) which is the conformation championship for essentially the best conformation GSD's of the world.

The reason you do not see more dogs from the U.S.A. (or other countries for that matter) participate in either the BSP or BSZS is because both annual shows are held in Germany, and travelling that distance with a dog is more than some are willing to do or willing to spend. Plus, the Germans tend to have more qualified dogs for either show due to the breed popularity and abundance of dog clubs there.

Best Regards,

Bob-O

The BSP is only for dog/handler teams who reside in Germany and are members of the SV. Americans can and have participated when they reside in Germany. It is the National Schutzhund Championship for Germany, not for everybody. Before going to the BSP, these teams have to qualify in their regions (Landesgruppen). The SV has 15 regions in Germany. The amount of teams from each LG (region) depend on the size of the region. And no, Landesgruppe 16 is not considered a different region. It is used by the SV for members from outside of Germany for entry data purposes. The BSP is considered very prestigous because the qualification procedures are much more stringent than here in the U.S.

The reason you don't find anything about other events (U.S.A. Nationals etc.) on these workingline pedigrees is because the SV issues them and they only mention the German SV National events.

Chris, thank for the addition/correction. I knew the dogs had to pass all the normal stipulations of The S.V. but I was not aware that the owner(s) must make residency in Germany.

Thanks Again,

Bob-O

WUSV is for the world of GSDs; BSP is for the Germans only; FCI is for world all breeds.
