I was always under the impression that the VA rated Dogs in Germany, (cream of the crop) by SV standards had to remain in Germany? Maybe a rumor I picked up some place along the way? Can somebody that knows the SV well explain this? I do not want any arguments, just facts about VA dogs in Germany and the rules pertaining to them. Thank you all.

there are no rules in any organization about who has to keep or sell their dogs after a show. If someone owns a VA dog and is offered enough money, they are free to sell it. They own it. Whether they want to or not is another story. Traditon is one thing. Rules and regulations another. One of the experieicned show guys can explain the tradition better than me.

There are no SV rules preventing a VA dog from visiting foreign lands. VA dogs can and have gone to other countries outside of Germany. Usually, after their show career is over. The reason for this is two-fold. First, in order to compete at the highest show levels, they need to stay in Germany--at least from April until the Sieger Show so that the judges who are going to be judging there can see them at the large Landesgruppen shows. In fact, the VAs are usually selected in late July or early August based on their performances at these shows. One famous example was in 1994 when Kimon van Dan Alhedy'shove went Sieger but limped on the day of the show. Herman Martin, then SV president, commented that he had done so well all summer long and had so soundly beaten his competition that he could not in good conscience put him less than Sieger just because someone had stepped on his foot the day before... The second reason VA dogs rarely leave Germany until their show careers are finished is that they can do the most good for the breed and themselves (in terms of sireing excellent progeny which helps their show ratings) by remaining in Germany. They are allowed 60 breedings in Germany and 30 outside per year. VA dogs often visit a foreign country and then ultimately get sold to someone there when their career is over. Lasso v Neuen Berg (1997 Sieger) visited the US as a VA3 dog and was purchased later. Ulk v Arlett (1995 Sieger) also came after he was Sieger as did 1996 VA2 Cash v Wildsteiger. 1997 VA4 Natz v. Steigerhof visited Norway before he was bought. VA 4Enzo v Buchhorn came to the states twice and I am sure there are many more examples.

Thanks to Klossbruhe for a great explanation. Kevin M. is in Canada, others top males that might have made VA in Germany moved on to other countries before that could be achieved. Did not even the Sieger Eiko Kirschental get sold to Japan eventually ? Wildthing -- All you need is around $80,000 US (maybe more depending on the Euro) and you too can own a VA dog.

hello friends ! most of the va dogs here in germany are owned or co-owned by some foreign people. These are mostly people that reserve the dogs for themself, without a change of ownership, that means they pay for the dog and sponsor the training, conditioning, shows, handler etc. during on or two showseasons. we are not talking about people with $ 80.000.- us on there bank account, those guys are real industrial managers from asia, europe and the states and even sheiks from the uae. $ 80.000.- is probably the price of a 6 to 7 year old male, but never for a younger va ! they are allowed to breed 80 times within the wusv and 40 non wusv member owned bitches. a studfee is euro 600.- ($720us)times 120, times 4 years that's the price of a va. so approx. $ 345.600.- us i was invited to a dinner at a saturday siegershow evening, by a japanesse friend. he reserved the vicesieger of the following day, payed 300.000 dm and sold him on the same evening to the president of the taiwan kennel club for 500.000.- dm. yes, my friend did already know, that atlas went vice sieger on the following sunday. i was very surprised, believe me, that opened my eyes ! if you want to know more, just ask ! gaby
