Breed survey, recommended for breeding preceeds it.(i.e. Kkl1) Lebenzeit is Lifetime.

lebenszeit is German for lifetime

If a dog has an Lbz designation it means he's been breed surveyed for life (KKL1 or KKL2).

Thank you for the actual meaning and explanation.  Much appreciated.

Apologies if this is a dumb question, (but I do not know and therefore need to ask) - presumably this would be a good title to have?  Are there many dogs with a life-time breed survey?

Thank you again, Vixen

 Vixen,

A breed survey is NOT a title. It is a breed survey.  This is a breed suitability examination. It consists of a short performance test (attack on handler out of the blind and the courage test).  The dog also stands for exam, gaiting briefly for the judge, etc. The dogs are weighed, measured and a lengthy form is filled out by the Körmeister (breed survey judge) that details the dog in all aspects of body, color, temperament etc. This is then is turned into the appropriate sponsoring organization.

To take part in a breed survey a dog must first have a working title, a "G" (Good) or better in a conformation show, hip and now elbow certification, and have completed an Ausdauerprufung (the 12 mile endurance test). Once a dog has a rating, either KKL1 or KKL2, within two years it must re-survey. If the dog passes that second one, then it is given the LEBENZEIT ranking and never has to do it again.

The KKL1 status means the dog is "recommended" for breeding and the KKL2 rating means the dog is "suitable" for breeding. Often the only difference between a dog getting a KKL1 vs a KKL2 is something very minor, such as missing premolars, some minor  structural issue such as a steep shoulder, gait, lack of pigment, light eye color etc. Unfortunately, too many people think KKL2 means there is some major fault in the dog and this is often not the case. There are plenty of dogs who have KKL1s I would not breed and plenty with KKL2s that I would breed. Of course, the opposite is true as well.

I hope this helps explain it.

Hodie,  thank you very  much for explaining this AND in simple to understand language.  (Speaking for myself, what can seem obvious and straight-forward to some, is somewhate confusing for others).  So thanks again, for taking the time to clarify the 'Breed Survey'.

A working title also doesn't have to be just a Schutzhund title, it can also be the german herding title (HGH).  And in that case, if a dog has the HGH, the dog is not required to have passed an AD.  Acquiring the HGH title in and of itself is an endurance test.
