I have been wondering how things are turning out for Theres, her son  and dogs. How is the health of all of them? and has the house been saved? Can anyone fill me in?

Thanx

Thanx Sparrow.

I think it's a shame how some "people" show no respect towards other people in times of hardness.

You're welcome Isabelle.  I agree, this girl has been through the ringer, I don't know how she's been able to keep it together.  You've also reminded me I haven't put another check in the mail yet, will do it today.

I just got a pm from her.  She is having a real hard time of it.  Pretty much everything in her house is destroyed or will have to be.

Hiya :)
Sorry I havnt been posting updates on the board, I got a real feeling that folks were tired of hearing about it so I figured I would post an update when something big happens or I know what they are going to do.
So far the Carpeting in the Living room and my bedroom were contaminated and not salvageable. My sons brand new computer( 2 weeks old, early bd present), which was sitting on the lower rack of his desk, was contaminated, apparently, from what the EPA guys said, electronics such as pc's attract mercury in some sort of magnetic way, his flat screen monitor was fine tho :). The living room furniture, which was a pit group with recliners on each end, were contaminated and had to be destroyed. Apparently my son had played with the mercury on his desk and some rolled into my filing cabinet, they were both heavily contaminated. My mothers antique hallway rug was contaminated ( it sat on the desk top, kind of like a runner) The clothes and bedding that were on the floor in the laundry room, ( my dryer had broke down and it took me 3 weeks to get it fixed, I had started doing laundry that sunday but didnt get it all finished, of course it was all sorted on the floor waiting to make the next load into the washer lol)

From what they said, they sprayed MercSorb into the crack and then sprayed expanding foam, then put a sealer on it. In the spot that was really busted up, they took the chunks out, did the mercsorb, sprayed the foam in it but couldnt find the bottom so they made a few layers of foam then poured concrete in it. They painted sealant over the entire floor in the living room, dining room, den and my bedroom. A real pretty blue lol. I think at this particular moment, my biggest loss... I have a fireplace with a beautiful brick hearth, about 12 bricks high that ran about 2 ft past the fireplace on each side and came out to the front of it about 3 1/2 ft. Well, thats where the bottle of mercury was sitting when the pups found it, they chewed on it there and the mercury got in the little fissures in the brickwork. They had to demolish and totally remove the hearth. The fireplace is still standing but it is now flush with the wall instead of having a hearth. The bottom of the fireplace is about 3 ft off of the floor.
I have thank you notes ready to get sent out, I just havnt had time to turn around twice lol I am hoping to get them out before this weekend so I can beat the christmas rush.
As it stands right now, If the seal in the crack works, and the good lord willing the slab doesnt shift ( my slab is on a fault in the ground, tree roots push against it and a little rain makes it float around. One day my cabinet door will be level, I will come in that evening and they will be skewed by about 4 inchs lol) they anticipate me being able to return to the house possibly by the 14th or so. If the good lord decides it needs to rain here and the slab shifts and breaks the seal, they will explore whether or not to demolish or possibly try to reseal. Myself, I think they should bust out the concrete, scoop out the dirt and refill the concrete. Its not like it can hurt the slab, from what I understand there is no rebar in it to begin with or if there is it is minimal.

The dogs are NOT happy at the shop, the yard is tiny tiny for even 1 dog much less 3 adult and 2 pups. Xena is an exscape artist and even tho the fence WAS buried she managed to pull it up in 1 place and they all got out, Several days later  Xena pulled/pushed the gate out and they all escaped, Tino and the pups got up on the hiway and Tino very nearly got hit, Doing a flip backwards when the 18 wheeler blew its horn is the only thing that saved him. So I go around, running electric wire in the places that didnt have it and just generally making it fort knox secure at 7 am in 33 degree weather with a wicked north wind blowing but I think I have it licked this time. I am going to ask the EPA guys tomorrow if I ca

cont

I am going to ask the EPA guys tomorrow if I can have my sideyard back so I can put them in it. I would rather run the gas back and forth to take care of them than have the constant worry about them getting out of the fence and getting hit on the hiway. At least if they get out of the fence at the house, there is a pasture they will run and I will only have to worry about them getting shot! jk, My fence at the house IS Fort Knox secure! lol It may look cheesey but they cannot/do not get out of it, maybe its the 2 strong electric shock boxes I have running that gives a good bite lol.
My ex husband and my son now joke about the house calling it "Contamination Corner" Sure doesnt make me feel to good.
So thats the latest greatest :) I just felt as tho folks were tired of hearing my woes, cant say that I blame them, this has become an unending odyssey.
