Actually, I feel that some of todays showline GSDs show a remarkable distain for the standard. I, too appreciate 'the golden middle'. I feel that both show & working lines can & DO have V & VA rated conformation, I have a showline female with the gently sloping back & correct angulation that the standard calls for, & guess what? My working line male ALSO has the correct topline & angulation called for by the standard. I don't like roached backs, I don't like hock-walkers, I think we make the dogs do these things to fulfill some need we have to prove we are superior to nature. I also don't like the 'bull-dog' heads, and 'corgi' build of the more extreme working lines. Both extremes are just that---extremes. Most of our dogs do not fall into that catagory, thankfully. Most of our GSDs seek the standard, as they should. And any GSD that seeks the standard is GORGEOUS! jackie harris

We have multiple working lines and they are all beautiful. I don't really care if others agree or not.......
I have seen a few show line ones I really liked so I'm not too biased.

Beauty is as beauty does.

I love the working lines...I tend to think they look better than both types of showlines, though the German Showlines have gotten alot better in my opinion.

I like diversity, especially in color. I think there has been too much breeding for this and for that. Working and show.
I think the German Shepherd Dog should be bred for its original qualities, without the special interests.
Its truely a special breed when it has all its faculties.

I think there are beautiful dogs and fugly dogs in working lines and show lines.

I think the fugly dogs are the ones who are malnurished, and un-cared for. I cant say I ever saw an ugly GSD. Altho the big headed DDR seems a little extreame

Noble effort but I doubt you'll get anyone ballsy enough to just flat out say, "yup those straight-backed, hard-hitting dogs got hit with the ugly stick".
On the other hand, if you sift through the posts you'll see various and sundry slurs comparing WL's to "coyotes", and insisting they don't have "true working structure".
"Beautiful is what serves a purpose."
