How many days are acceptable to go over the expected due date of a pregnant bitch?

You should see pups sometime after the 56 or 58th day, from the first mating, I had a labrador retriever, years back,
that went 67 days, she ended up with 2 puppies that weighed 1 1/2 pounds each!  Thank God that wasn't her very first
litter.

If they are having many pups they should have them sooner than later.

If the bitch is 4 to 5 days late, get her to the Vet to be examined.  The bitch can go as long as 68 days with normal puppies being born.

I have a female that was 80 days pregnant. I had her ultra-sound checked at 45 days after her being mated (only once) and she was confirmed NOT pregnant. That was it, I thought! She also showed absolutely no signs of pregnancy. On the 80th!!! day after being mated, Holly was born (only one puppy!)! A small girl only 350 gramms heavy, but a healthy little girl. As soon as she was 10 weeks old I had her DNA tested to see if my old male had done something he shouldn't have when I wasn't looking! But he hadn't! Our Körmeister and many Vets were baffled about the length of that pregnancy! Miracles do happen, and our miacle Holly is now a Guidedog for the blind.

If you feel uncomfortable with the length of your females pregnancy don't hesitate to have her checked up.

Good luck

If you had her progesterone tested, you would know the exact date - 60 days after conception. Without testing you don't know for sure what day she ovultaed and what day she concieved, the sperm can live and be viable for up to 11 DAYS~!

If your concerned always take her to the vet for an exam, to make sure the pups aren't in distress if they are over due. If she's not upset and in distress I would not panic, but would be concerned enough to take her in to make sure the pups heart rates are what they should be.

Good luck, I hope she and the babies are fine.

That's one reason I like an ultra sound done.  Our doc can pinpoint within a day or two of when gestation began, which can be a few days after mating.  That narrows it down to within a couple days, not a spread based on coverage dates.

Davinhoff, you might want to rethink your response. There is a condition called primary and secondary inertia. For reasons best described by a vet, the female doesn't enter into labor. She will show no signs of distress. If left unchecked beyond her due date, the puppies do die and the result is usually metritis progressing into pyometra. Get your girl checked if her due date comes and goes. Your gut feeling has a purpose. YOU know your dog. Good luck..
