...from buying a pet store GSD today.  They were en route to a pet store to look at  SIX MONTH OLD gsd who had been "marked down" to $300- from $1200!! Unlike so many, in spite of the puppy being painfully thin and he was feeling sorry for it, he actually took my advice and walked away.  I explained to him why its so important to buy any dog, but especially a GSD, form a breeder where we can meet the parent(s), see their breeding qualification, get actual health guarantees. Then I faxed him a list of breeders I felt would have what he was looking for in his price range.

Thats $300 less being fed into that foul industry. Pass it on.

One the other hand, it might have saved the pup from whatever fate it  faces if it doesn't sell........

It is very important to stop the sale of cats and dogs in pet stores.  We had one open in my neighborhood.  The pups all stem from a puppy mill, in our State, are known mostly to be sick, and are sold on payment plans.  If there are no buyers, there is no market.  The more educated people become about the trade of pets as "livestock" the better for the pure bred dog.  Thanks KCzaya.  Our store is a Pet-O-Rama.  What is yours?

I agree with KC on this. He did the right thing.

When you see a puppy you feel sorry for 9 times out of 10 there are health, Genetic, temperament problems. and for the first time all the way to the 10th time buyer no one needs a heart ache. YES< it is sad that the puppy is there in the first place but unless you have extra dollars and a good trainer on hand it is better to walk away. As sad as it may seem.

I personally wish they would bann pet shop puppies and kitties.

Sorry, that's exactly the wrong attitude!  Buying this puppy would just make room for a whole litter.  Supply and demand - if there is no demand the store will stop the supply!

Amen Brother:   I tried to convey this to the thread Nature or Nurture   That is a prime example of what happens when store bought gsds get sold...if people would educate people, newbies on this thread, and even some of the posters,,,,,,get serious about what is trained and how and what is bred and how....but one thing is to quit jumping down peoples throat , as if we are all not good enough to help  each other without calling names and maybe more poeple would llisten to us.

People think because some person calls himself or her a breeder and they sell you a gsd at a bargain price, oh I lowered my price, like Nature and Nurture " thread, , upset unpredictable  , untrainable and misrepresentative breed standards wouldnt be so rampant...I have never seen so many ads in the USA right now for off bred gsd....

But we need to handle this problem with niceness but firmness,,,I dont back down to anyone on the standard and how to breed raise and train....but I need to be more patient and kinder with my words so the people will take heed,   not call be a bitch....like the mother dog...

I always did wonder what happens to the dogs that don't get sold at the pet stores?  What happens when they reach a certain age and they're not moving the pups and how long will they wait til they feel the pups too old and won't sell?  Anyone know the answers?
