I have a GSD turning 2 year old this Sunday. He is a large dog  (40kg) with no health issue (except that he itches sometimes).  However, for the past couple of months, I noticed that his testicles are hanging loosely(i.e descending) between his legs.  It is not obvious when he is standing and pacing normally.  However, when he runs, the testicles could be seen swinging or bouncing from side to side when view from behind.  Is this normal? I hope so.  If not, what is the issue or problem?  Any thing the vet can do to correct it?

Thanks;

Jovi

Jovi, I would not worry too much about your dogs testicles. It's descending because it's over heating, it's the nature way of cooling it off. Sperm will not survive if reaches certain degrees, It needs to be in a precise temperature to survive. It goes up and down naturally. If you have no plans for breeding your dog I would suggest that you neuter him. Hes at the perfect age for this procedure.

Hi Jovi.

Don't worry, my males do that too.

As for neutering him, I wouldn't neuter a male unless he has health problem.

All the best

Hi Britanny & Isabelle:

Thanks for sharing your thoughts with me.  I have not decided yet whether I should breed him or not.  However, I 'm puzzled as to how  the testicles can go up or down over time. The skin housing the testicles is already sagging, so how could it go back to its original size/shape . Currently, it is hanging very loosely between his legs.   It would definitely affect him if he runs fast.

Sorry, it should be Brittany and not as spelt earlier. My fingers are acting independently from my head.

If you post  picture, it would be easier to tell whether or not they are normal.
