in my earlier threadd I had written I desperately need to buy Happy dog food for my pup. He was on happy dog from birth and he is not taking well to Royal Canin RC 32

Please help. I would like to purchase  Happy Dog Maxi-Junior-Croq .

Some people gave me some sites in Malaysia but those are not working and my Bank does not allow me to use my credit card on Malaysian sites due to security reasons.

Please help. I'm having a tough time feeding my dog. Raw is not working out sufficient for him due to deficiency of Vitamins and minerals.

I give him raw liver and mutton minced once. But the vets says I have to put him on Kibble to cover up minerals deficiency.

thx

"Please help. I'm having a tough time feeding my dog. Raw is not working out sufficient for him due to deficiency of Vitamins and minerals"

what???? what deficiency.. they get absolutely everything they need by eating the things nature intended them to eat...... could you be more specific?? Have you done any research into the rigth way to do this?? Dr Billinghurst?? some of the others??

If you insist on feeding kibble, what other foods are available to you ... you realize variety is important in all diets and that yourt dog shouldn't eat this food for his whole life?

I guess anything is possible, but what exactly would your dog eat if the company that made that dog food, ceased to exist?  Surely, a hungry dog will eat many different things, all containing what it needs for good health.  To "panic" because you can not find one particular dog food is nonsense.  I am not putting you down, just stating that you do not need to worry so much about which food.  If your dog is not eating as it normally did, then there is most likely another problem causing that.

Buy your dog some canned dog food and mix it 50/50 with whatever kibble.  It will eat it, or the dog needs to go to a vet for a check up.  Good luck.

Most dog fopod companies put tons of money into research and development, and they put those added nutrients in to puppy foods for a reason - because they NEED it.  Find a PREMIUM puppy food and keeo your puppy on it.  They do not need to switch foods all the time, as this is not good for them either.  Mix in some raw or canned as "do right" suggested.  But a premium PUPPY food is best for puppies, unlesss you want to do all raw and add in the precise amount of added minerals, etc that the puppy needs.

altos,

actually some people on this thread went off the hook without realizing my situation. I feed raw from a basic knowledge base that I have (thanks to the learned inputs from this site) I really don;t have the time to do a PHd on nutrition. Whatever time I can get I try to educate myself on dogs /food etc etc.

The reason I said I give little bit of meat which is not sufficient is that I donot have time to prepare elaborate well balanced natural diets so I supplement by giving raw minced meat/ liver eggs but no veggies. Some fruits.

And balance it by giving good quality kibble. Thats what my breeder suggested. However with all meat my pup was having loose stools. But with RC 32 he has excellent stools. But the problem is he is not eating it delightfully. So I was hoping if I can get even some better kibble I can try it. Well that was what my experienced very good Vets advice. I was going by what I was adviced by my breeder and my Doctor.

Anyway thanks for all the replies

Vikram:  At first, I was surprised by your title, as I have read many posts from you in the past and know that you are a seasoned, veteran GSD owner.  But then, because of the title of your thread, "Please need some urgent help", I and Dkiah thought that you were a little bit too panicky and uninformed about dog food.  Apparently you are not, and you just worded your title and posting a little too heavy handed.  So anyway, I guess I did not help with my advice and hope the best for your dog/s.  Sorry.

Vikram, what RAW are you feeding? Does it contain bones as well as meat? The runs should  clear up in a matter of says if so. If you have been feeding meat, it's no wonder the dog isn't as happy to scarf up his nasty kibble. Who wants hot dogs when you can have prime rib?

I feed RAW and do not worry about fruits or veggies daily. I may give my dog my table scrap leftovers, the other day he ate some cherries, corn, Brussels sprouts. Different days of course, just what I had laying around, I was going to throw out anyway. It sounds to me what you have been feeding would be sufficient for any dog. Eggs have tons of nutrients and a bit of organ meat, is all you need on top of the regular meat/bones. You do not need a PhD. I too was a bit nervous in the beginning, I planned to feed a some kibble as the evening meal but the dog is doing wonderful without it.

Meat/bones included

20%organ meats

occasional eggs 2-3 a week

few tablespoons of yogurt or cottage cheese

occasional fish when you have it

Use whatever meat you have handy at the time, I vary from chicken, beef, pork, turkey and venison on occasion. I do not have access to lamb which in my experience has given my dogs gas and looser stools, that may be your problem.

Sorry, Vikram... but I wasn't going "off the hook".. I'm actually one of the calmer people as far as this list goes, it hurts me at times but I try my darndest................oops, just ducked that one!! LOL!

I read a book or 2 about raw feeding just like I do about everything else including breeding, training, puppy rearing.. no PHD level study involved.. it's just basic and then I learn as I go..

Somebody said you need the bones with the raw and that is very true..... can you find chicken backs or necks, duck necks.. something like that? very good for the stools and lots of calcium and EFA's as well....

Maybe are you feeding too much and that is why your dog is not so thrilled?? Just a thought,......maybe hold back a meal, all my dogs fast one meal a  week....  sometimes that can spark the interest in food..

I was just trying to help, so many people (vets included) are very misinformed when it comes to feeding raw ...... some of the things my clients have been told just drives me nuts!! Absurd!

Hope you find something

I asked my vet about raw diets. He does not reccemmed it. He says that is very hard for the average person to make the meal balanced with the right additives on a day in day out basis. If he has a client come in that is already feeding raw, he will give them the recipe that is best for their dog and incourage them to stay with it and not vari it inconsistantly.

He is not uninformed or misinformed. He went to school with and is still friends with two doctors that do have their Phd's in canine nutrition.

A raw diet of beef, chicken or lamb is not a  natural diet for dogs. Wild and feral dogs do not eat beef, chicken or lamb. They eat primarily rodent, with occasionall venison or rarely bird. A rabbit dog food was made but it turns out that too many modern domestic dogs are allergic to rabbit, so it is a very hard food to find.

Be very careful feeding just anything or tablescraps. Onions cause liver damage, the damage is cumulative. It won't show up the first time a small amount is eaten, but will show up over time. Grapes and raisens are poisionous. Check with your vet before feeding human food to your dog.
