Just a reminder and a plea for those of you who have not registered your dogs on the German Shepherd Dog Breed Betterment Registry. I beg you- the only way we will ever improve the health of our breed is by taking a proactive approach to the problems we are seeing in the breed.

As most of you know, I lost my beloved Jack Flash to Degenerative Myelopathy, and my sweet Missie T has been diagnosed with the same disease. A friend of mine had a GSD that just bloated and died. Another has a GSD with perianal fistulas, and another just lost her GSD to EPI :( We need to GET A GRIP on the problems that are killing our breed! To just ignore them is to create a monster that there will be no regining in,. If the problems become too deeply embedded in the breed, they will never be able to be bred out. If taking simple action can help avert a family's heartbreak, why wouldnt anyone breeder want to take advantage of that. By not doubling up on health issues, we can possibly avoid breeding our dogs not to self destruct... If we keep on walking straight ahead upon the path we are traveling, we are going to find ourselves without purchasers for puppies. The heartbreak and expense of having a GSD will be too much to handle for families- the cost will be too high emotionally and financially! There is a big picture here, to consider, and a whole is no less than the sum of its parts.

Once again, I beg you to please register your dogs on the German Shepherd Dog Breed Bettrment Registry. It will take a some time to enter the info, yes, but isnt the breed worth it? If you havent read "Two Hearts: Our Battle with Degenerative Myelopathy" and "Two Hearts...the Final Chapter.. " please do so. Perhaps an insiders view of complete devastation and a world imploding will help you to see the light....
