I agree with that there are good and bad in both sides of the lines. I have both. http://castlebrookshepherds.net/enter.html I love them all! Although I am VERY careful about what show lines I use and research for proven working abilities. (YES, there are show lines that have them) There ARE ugly in both. AND there ARE working lines that don't work worth a darn!! I have had people say that a G rated dog is worthless and have seen where some VA dogs could be deemed worthless in work. What is the key, is to know you dogs faults (they ALL have them) and learn how to improve on what your particular dog needs. I have one G rated dog, who has great work and rock solid nerves, which some on this board have deemed worthless, but she brings the exact qualities that some of my dog's ( and other for that matter) could use. Looking at the whole picture and being honest about what qualities/faults your dog has and needs improvement on is the what improving the breed is all about. Yes, you may have to take a step back in conformation (not always of course) to improve working qualities in a show line, and the opposite in working lines, but that usually only takes a generation or 2 to bring back anything lost. It is the people who think their dogs are flawless that have the biggest negative effect on the breed.

There is nothing better than a dark black sable... but I love living with our Siegers, they have some control over their drive!

DDRshep,
Welcome, bring thick skin with you and enjoy. Appreciated your post.
GoldenElk, You have good taste. I thought you were saying that Tyna Jipo Me was your dog. I was going to say I want a pup from her. She is a great dog. Good working dog and has everything I like in a female. Do you own any of the others??
As far as working dogs being ugly, no way. I think they are great looking dogs and what they bring to the table makes them without a doubt the best looking gsds. Have you ever gone out on a date and the person you were dating wasn't what you would call your favorite looking person.? But after you got to know them they got more and more beautiful ( working lines)Or, you had a date with the one that you thought was fantastic looking, but after they opened their mouth the beauty departed? ( showlines)
I like some of the German showlines as long as they are not roachy and they can do some work, but I will always take working dogs.

More than a few Jinopo dogs have caught my eye. I can't see anyone turning their nose up to Tina. Beautiful dog!
