LadyFrost

moons very nicely said....socializing is a huge part of having a secure dog, if they are not afraid and are not barking their head off they actually start using their brain and evaluating strangers, staying in tune with your feelings about a stranger......
and he is a GORGEOUS boy no doubt, love that light line on his mussel and forehead makes him look like he raises one eyebrow and questions why are you starring at me...very nice looking puppy...too bad they grow up so fast...12 months and they are no longer innocent and clumsy, they are serious and focused and they no longer sleep upside down..LOL

I did, do have a problem... However.... What I have him for is NOT a pet dog. He is strictly a sport dog. I do not want to take the "F-U" attitude away, only mold it to what I want. So it really depends on what you want your dog to be. My boy is a civil based dog, and I need that, you may not. I have to be careful because a civil based dog has a lower threshold for fear.... If that is your case as well, you need to talk to a good trainer as to not turn him into something you may not be able to handle.

I'm so glad I offended you raymond, that made my day.  BTW, your halo's a little crooked.

micheleambernick, your boy is beautiful!  Just recognizing a problem is the start of a solution.  I agree with the others, nip it now so he doesn't nip you later.  He needs direction, but I'm sure you'll get him under control.  I am surprised your female hasn't put him in his place, she may yet.  He looks like he's going to be a big boy, good luck with him!

Thank you GSDtravels, I will do my best with him and my female is very sweet she does try to put him in his place, but he is like so focused on biting her. Do you think he will be big? I thought he was on the small side 30 pounds, time will tell.  This puppy keeps us all on our toes he is a tough one. We really love this little guy :)

I was judging from the size of his paws, he looks pretty heavy boned and his paws look big, but maybe it's the perspective of the pic.  Like I said, seeing an issue is half of the battle and if you go in the right direction, I'm betting he'll be a great dog!  It all depends on what his buttons are and how you direct them.  Love the attitude in those eyes, I'd say he's a keeper!

Pharaoh

by Pharaoh on 22 September 2010 - 03:09

Your story brings back memories of Pharaoh's puppyhood.

I was lucky, my 11 year old female who "mothered him" was a dominant bitch.  She let him know that she was the dominant dog.  Pharaoh learned his lessons well and has excellent dog socialization skills.

Sadly, Phantom died when he was only 7 months old.  He did not eat for days and grieved.

He is a very challenging dog but good natured, plays well with children and now at three is maturing a little.  One of his habits is to take my seat or place on the bed if I leave it.  I always insist on him moving and taking my place back.

I laughed when I read your description of him kicking up dirt.  I now live on a ridge with red volcanic soil that is like talcum powder.  So now when he does it there are clouds of fine red powder wafting by.
