At this point, I'm really not sure if I have a preference.   LOL

My boy is just that, "goofy" for the most part, but he is also the protector of the house, yard, and car.  And is quite convincing about it.  As far as the training goes.  My females are for sure, more serious.   I kinda like the goofiness of the boys at times.

The girls, especially the intact one, is very in tune with me.  In particular at the end of my pregnancy, she couldn't be any closer to me at times.  She's very watchful over the baby and probably checks on her the most.  Only recently has she started to bark at someone approaching the yard.  And is quite convincing about it.

Since I work them both in herding, and usually back to back, there are definitely differences in how they work.  Lexie is all business, whereas Ike really seems to enjoy himself.   Not that she doesn't enjoy herself, but she's just a lot more serious about it.   The same for schutzhund.

My next GSD will probably be a male though...

gsdsch3v yeah all I've seen are males. I don't have issues with female dogs...i practially own one. I notice that more males can get a level 3 titles than a female. As a rule of thumb males are bigger and stronger but females are more agile. I guess it depends on who you talk to. When I watch people train for PSA, French Ring, etc majority of the class are male dogs.

just about every male I have raised have been big goober's! goofy dumb males, now my girls are super quick, smart and of course bitchy.  If I wanted strictly a pet, a male would work for me, as they have always been the easiest for me to handle and control.  the girls like to push me some times, but I like the challenge, they keep me on my toes :)

i have always preferred males. that is until I got my first female last year. Wow what a difference! Still love my boys but she matured so much faster and the bond I have with her is just extra strong somehow. And she is such a strong worker- Loves it more than anything- and can switch from work to playing with neighbor kids and puppies to cuddling on the couch in an instant. Then again my oldest male is what I would consider as close to the perfect dog as i could get! Strong worker, perfect, solid temperment, and gorgeous to boot! (I may be a little biased of course..) My  younger male- a big doof. Goofy as they come and i don't know that he'll ever mature lol

The rule is quite simple, males are good all around, but once you get that super fine female you just don't want anything else ;). Hey even alfa wolfs listen to alfa females lol hahaha ;)

For me their is quite a difference. The female is the superior all around dog. As snapier69 says a real good female will make you ask why did Iwait so long to get a female.
