I wouldn't concentrate on lines (CZ, SV, DDR etc.).  Throw that notion out the window.  There are good dogs and crappers in any line.  Listen to the few above that said to find dogs you like.   Like 4pack said, they all come in the same colors.  Go to clubs and trials.  Talk to the handlers.    Don't get too caught up in the Czech, DDR, west German mumbo jumbo.  Throwing a blanket stereotype on a certain line is folly.  I hear people say that Cz are no nonsense, etc, etc.  Well, some may be, but not all, not even the majority.  They fact is, that they all have lines insid of lines and there are a variety of options in each.    A good dog is a good dog and he will not know where he came from, but where he is going.

Don Corleone:

I completely agree with "A good dog is a good dog and he will not know where he came from, but where he is going." My show line dog is a perfect example of that. When I say lines I'm more specifically looking for lineage (parents, grandparents) of a dog. As in "Talk to the owner of a Ufo son or daughter to see if they have ever produced something your looking for." Things such as that. I go to  clubs and Trails often (Going to Columbia, SC to watch the regionals). I have been to several different clubs, and I'm dedicated to one. I have been told to lean toward country lines or whatever, however, I'm looking for a specific pup, not a specific country. If this pup is produced from, Belgium, Germany, Hungary, Czech.... whatever... Just as long as I get what I want and what is good for me. I want to make sure that who ever I get my pup from can not only be the pups breeder but can also be my friend. I'm willing to go WAY outta my way to find the perfect dog for me.

Good post tiffae89. You certainly have got your head screwed on the right way, i hope you haven't given up on that showline of yours though!!!  liz

Oh no. :) He's still my working boy... No matter what his lines are. He's solid in mind and temperment, yes I wish he had more drive, but he is a good dog and there is nothing the matter with him. I'm just expanding my working family. :) Even my box puppy and cat have a job. Isabelle is in Therapy and George kills the bugs :) lol.

This is for Aristian:
You are going to Germany, right? If I were you, I would contact Willi Müller and his family at www.salztalblick.de
They have based a lot of their breeding program on (my alltime favorite, now diseased) Paska, Yedi vom Riederloh and Hella Mutzbach. These are the dogs I love and I was really happy with the outcome when I bred my V-rated female to Paska. The two puppies I kept (a male and a female) are a bit different from each other though. The male, Onyx is a hard but friendly dog and his drive is unbelievable. I have not seen him for a while, as he now resides in Germany but different people have told me already that his courage tests are fast and forceful. His sister is with us here in the U.S., but will follow her brother to Germany in March. She is a bit more of a sensitive dog (obedience) but is forgiving and very drivey. BTW, she is the dog in my avatar. They are now 16 months old. I liked the Paska-breeding so much that I am considering taking my Chuckie (the mother) to a nice Paska-son at the end of this year for her last litter before she retires. My advice to you is to really talk to people like Willi Müller and be truthful with them. Trust me, you don't want a hard dog. A hard WL dog is definitely not the same as a hard showline dog. I have seen hard WL dogs in Germany with experienced handlers. There were dogs even these professional handlers gave up on. Willi Müller has lots of dogs on paper, but he has most of them placed with professionals who raise, train and title them for him. Good luck to you!

Thanks Chris! I will be visiting Germany in June. I guess your right a hard WL might be different than a hard SL. Guess ill have to research a lot before i get my dog. Maybe visiting different kennels will dothe trick. Thanks once again Chris.
