Woodside is certainly one of the best known ASL kennels in the US and Canada. Mega Bucks is a beautiful dog with a big record in the breed. I saw him last year at the National Specialty.  If I were interested in buying Hills, YR, I would contact them and ask why they are selling him and ask about any concerns you have. I believe you will get honest answers.

I think the important thing to remember is this dog may be a perfectly good GSL but it doesn't mean he is going to do well in the ASL world and/or produce the type of dog Woodside wants.  They might just have decided he is not a good match for their bitches or isn't producing the type they need. He has a bit of a roach and that is deadly in the AKC ring.  If he doesn't move out with a flying trot at full extension, he's not going to win at AKC shows, not sure how he would do in CKC shows. I don't see Woodside trying to campaign a short gaited dog.

It would be the same thing if GSL breeders ever decide to think out of the box and try to integrate ASL's into their breeding. For the ASL breeders today, some see the need to do better with their dogs in areas where GSL's excel, so they import dogs from Germany - Goldfarb, Gleason, Smith, Fasano, to name a few. My only concern is that some are importing GSL's to try to give them a dog that can do well in IPO. If you like the dog, I would be sure to ask if he has been exposed to IPO training and to see a video of his work.

As far as the way he moves from the rear, he doesn't look much different to me than 99% of the GSL's or ASL's I've ever seen. Many of those dogs including my own "twist" one of both their rear legs when they walk. That's nothing new in the breed anywhere. I don't think he has a big enough side gait for most ASL breeders and he does hold his tail too high when he's excited. Otherwise he's a beautiful dog of lovely type IMO.
