These are 2 bi colors. See even Bi colors vary. The bottom is lighter and my lil man has more black and is redder. I myself would call your dog a heavy blanket. I love heavy blankets and bis. Im a huge fan of dark dogs! Shes pretty!

Thanks everybody - I haven't had any other dogs to compare with when it comes to identifying what she looks like. So I will now say she is a melanistic blanket back blk/red. Samba our dogs could be twins in the coloration and body structure. All that posted have beautiful dogs. Nona, Greta's black increased with age -at the time I thought it was strange - I wanted more red than black - but she is looker I have to say.
I would like to see more pictures of dogs /puppies that have this coloration - Please post more pictuers if you have them....

We have two unrelated blanket backs. My son has A male from American show lines (18 months old), and I have a female (3yrs) from working lines. Both have one black parent and one normal blk/tan saddle parent. Carrying the recessive black gene seems to allow the saddle to be more prodominate or blanket shaped. Both of them were born black and became more tan as they got older. Both had siblings with darker masks wich is a seperate gene and can cause the face to be completely black, but would still be considered blanket backs.
I believe your girl has too much tan to be bi-colored. For bi-colored think doberman colored. Cheek spots, eyebrows, lower legs, and most of the time under the tail. GSD's also tend to have striped toes and tar heels. Bi-colored are also usually born with the tan spots, and have it all their lives.
Here are pics of my son's blanket back for comparison. In 1st picture you'll notice his tail is a little short. He got it caught in a chainlink fence at the breeders as a very small puppy. These are just candid shots, but best I have for you to see color. Notice the tan extends behind the ears and up the legs under the stomach, etc.
Your girl is very pretty.
