RPK, didn't we learn anything from the Industrial Revolution? There are rivers that might look clean today, but we still can't eat the fish.

What happens when it is the deep oceans that are spewing oil from a leak no one knows how to stop? We call that industry, progress? How can a we accept any of these spills as acceptable and promise responsibility? An article in the paper about Texas/Ex xon and the neglect of the gas lines there,is an example .  The arrogance of man, we  can not assure what the next generation will do,  so how can we begin to claim we know what we are willing to risk for today, since it is the future we are destroying,

It is us Humans again who as usual cause all the Damage done in this world, We are in fact a Bigoted and the most destructive species In this universe, Some talk of how much a dollar fuel will cost in the near future
Bugger the price of Fuel what about the Marine life and Birds and Animals which are suffering because of Human greed or mistakes, That is why it needs to be sorted out very quickly if possible no matter how much the cost and no matter whose fault it was, We owe it to the Marine and Wildlife which helps keep this planet functioning to gedt this problem sorted

"...'BP did not build the containment devices before the spill because it

"seemed inconceivable" the blowout preventer would fail, Rinehart said.

"I don't think anybody foresaw the circumstance that we're faced with

now," he said. "The blowout preventer was the main line of defense

against this type of incident, and it failed.'..."

This is what I am talking about, this inconceivable, unbelieving ego; this nightmare happening with NO END IN SITE, should wake up the world to put a stop to deep sea oil drilling in its present form, maybe forever, if it were up to me. I don't trust humans to follow through on any of the great and also deadly to the planet solutions to energy.

Now is the time to finally figure out the SUN, WIND, GEOTHERMAL forces so they work for everybody. Forget the fossil fuels, send it on the way of whale blubber.

How dare BP do this? This should bankrupt them. And it still won't be enough.

Lol at sitasmom...blaming it on environmental groups. I'm really sure they would destroy the gulf to get their point across. BP has been downplaying this from the get go. The estimates of barrels per day just keep rising, with no end in site. The cospiracy theorist in me wants to blame someone...lots of coincidences. Obama saying he was ok w/offshore drilling just prior, earth day, halliburton involvement, etc. Lots of conspiracy chatter about North Korea torpedoing it. However, it was just a matter of time before something like this happened. Drill baby drill!!

..."Now, I think the American people are now aware, certainly the folks down in the Gulf are aware, that we're dealing with a massive and potentially unprecedented environmental disaster. The oil that is still leaking from the well could seriously damage the economy and the environment of our Gulf states and it could extend for a long time. It could jeopardize the livelihoods of thousands of Americans who call this place home...''

Does this sound stupid beyond belief?!

Obama said this, today. He probably is saying what anybody would say. At some point we need the truth, that we can't handle our own technology when it is coupled with greed.

Beetree,

Pollution is inefficiency, and the best system we have to fight inefficiency are free markets.

Good night

I always thought it was more like this, at least that is what I have been taught.

POLLUTION = WASTE = INEFFICIENCY = COST = LOST REVENUE

Right on Rat Man the more companies pollute the more it costs us as a society and personally with higher prices.

What ya think?

Red Sable,
Yes, there is always hope, I think thats very important for most people.

The problem for me is, I already know how things are gonna go.

I always have hope, but I live by what's real.

Most people don't want to see it.
I don't have the ability to not see it, I've always seen it.

This will not end a place, but it will change it forever.
Any recovery will be limited and some losses will be staggering, some permanent.

Hope can be motivating and make one feel better, but it won't fill a bucket.

Moons.
