Liebestraum....for intellingence
Wikingerblut...for Schutzhund
Osnabrukerland....for size
Piastendamm....for courage and heart.
I do not know if these bloodlines are in her current dogs, though. She had really serious problems with hip dysplasia with some of these lines. That's how she became friends with Fred Lanting.
Gee, don't see any American dogs there...wonder why?
"I wanted a dog that was very responsive, and very intelligent, that had the guts to deal with a situation if it really came to it, but that didn't look for trouble. And I didn't think that the modern American German Shepherd was that dog."
(Eventually she did use some American lines, but at the start, her preference was for the German dogs.)
I guess what chaps my butt about the people who slag Tina is that they refuse to see how close their own goals are to Tina's. They are too caught up in, "OH, how DARE she stop breeding German Shepherds? Our dogs are the PERFECT breed!"
No, folks, for some people, they're not. Deal with it! No one is forcing you to buy a Shiloh, just trying to get you to understand how this breed came to be. Yes, Tina may not do Schutzhund with them anymore, but the majority of the dog-buying public has zip interest or knowledge of Schutzhund. They want a safe, reliable dog that's intelligent and easy to train, and big enough to offer a feeling of security, but won't hurt their kids or their other pets. That's the Shiloh in a nutshell.
And, believe me, these dogs are NOT Golden retrievers! Most of them WILL protect their homes and families!

I see this discussion has disintigrated into childish namecalling, "my dog is better than yours" again.
Do you really think this is doing either breed any good?
We have been getting some good informative stuff on here then bam, the children start throwing spitballs once more.
Grow the hell up will ya!
Kitkat is right - too much bitching, not enough intelligent debate. Anyone visiting this site for information will run a mile when they see all this crap.
Mystere - you cant be serious? "ignore the unwanted behaviour" Ie what YOU dont agree with?
"respond only to the desirable" ie only to what YOU consider acceptable?
I sincerely hope the intelligent ones amongst us dont respond to THAT dictat or there is no hope for informed debate.
OK - let's ignore the Shiloh people who understandably get defensive when you post stuff on a GSD site dissing their dogs (stuff with no foundation I might add) & get down to what is going wrong with the GSD (thanks to the modern breed standard) Or is that not allowed either ?
