Not the same. Same mental disorders, perhaps, but not the same person.

That razors edge dog is hideous.
It doesn't look like it could muster up the air or the energy to lift it's ass to shit.

I have always had a soft spot for APBT's.
The ones I had were many years ago.  I got the red,red nose girl Hacksaw from a friend.  The kind of chocolate colored one I rescued outside a tavern as a itty bitty puppy.  I grew her out, she got her CGC and then I found a great home for her.
The brindle male was called Smokey.  He was animal aggressive, tried to take my horse down one time.  And of course the brindle female beagle cross, Crowbar.  She was the last of any pit bull breeding I had.

It is so sad to see what has happened because of  the irresponsible breeding and handling nowadays.

I haven't stuck my nose in here on this one because I've pretty much avoided the whole thread, since Pits aren't my favorite breed.

That said, I've seen some that were very nice, and a lot that weren't so very nice.  What lines they were is anyone's guess..Since the majority were in a pound awaiting execution.  My aunt has a Pit that someone dumped on her, outside of Palmyra, Missouri.  The city recently adopted a law that bans Pits, and someone who moved into town discovered that they could not have this dog, so they drove out the country and dumped her.  Yes, they just dumped her.  She is a little smaller than the dog pictured above by Abhay...cinnamon colored.  She's very good with everyone she meets, and is very sweet.  My aunt never wanted a dog, period, but this dog moved in on her, and then she fed her...Got her spayed..Got her shots..

She said there was no way in hell she was going to do anything special for this dog...Then she bought a special collar and harness, and a leash.  She wasn't going to keep it, so no way was she going to allow her to even stay in the garage, forget the house.  Well, come fall, she installed a doggy door in the garage, and the dog now spends probably half the day in the house, when my aunt isn't traveling.  When she's gone, the dog lives in the heated garage and the grandkids come over and feed, water, and play with her so she doesn't get too bored.

This dog got a little bit too carried away a few times and bruised my aunt with her teeth...I gave her a few tips about dealing with the dog while I was back there in September, and they have settled into a nice comfortable existence together...She still hopes someone will take this dog off her hands, but she will definitely keep her if she can't find a home that she agrees with.  It makes me laugh to think of this tough as nails woman, who raised two girls on her own, without a husband, and who just recently lost one of her beloved daughters to breast cancer, caving in to keeping a dog she never wanted and never asked for...An unlikely dog owner...First timer with a Pit Bull...But she can handle it and she's doing fine.

Duval, I don't know what your problem is, but you are definitely not being all that nice.  Jenni has tried to explain things to you, but you are picking at parts of her statements.  She has owned the breed, and knows about it, and so has Stacy, vomruiz.  Just having a buddy that puts a dog and bitch together, gets puppies, and uses them to hunt, isn't what I'd call extreme knowledge of the breed...It's an introduction, nothing more.  To really know the breed, you need to know the history of the breed, and the bloodlines that made it what it was.  You must also understand what it is today, and why it has become that way.

I personally don't like the breed...I'm a GSD person through and through.  But that doesn't mean that I haven't met some damned nice Pits...I have. I just hate when people who know nothing about a breed start throwing dogs together to make puppies to sell...reeks of PUPPY MILL to me. From what I understand, Razor's Edge is just a puppy mill.  If you are just breeding for color or size, and don't do anything even remotely working with a working breed, in my opinion you deserve what you get if the dog "turns" on you.

Joe,
Cute video of your dog and daughter ;-) What a good boy...

Crys,
I tried to avoid this thread too and didn't open it for awhile, because they always end up the same, and it doesn't make pit bull owners look very decent. These threads definitely bring out the ugly side of me.
That is a difficult thing your aunt is doing. But being willing to learn from your advice and having the heart to give that girl a chance at being a good pet for someone, says a lot for her spirit :-)
I know that there were a few dogs I had been ready to give up on, that turned out really nice, and some others that I had great hopes of finding good homes for, and they ended up having to stay with me. I just felt it was safer, especially for the ones who I had spend over a year trying to desensitize to other dogs, or small animals. I just felt it was better and safer for them and my community to stay with me.
You are spot-on with learning the history of the breed and why they are the way they are now. I have spent countless hours researching bloodlines, individual dogs, and people old and new who breed or raise pit bulls. As things got uglier with the breed I stopped breeding completely (I was refusing too many homes) and then started turning away rescues, as much as it broke my heart. Just like with the GSD, there are not enough GOOD homes and not enough people who are willing to learn about them or dedicate the time these dogs need to make them acceptable as housepets, rather than staked out in a muddy yard with nothing to do but chew on the side of their house or even chew on their tow chain all day...

Speaking of neglected dogs, I have some GSDs here that are eyeballing me. Time to go outside and get some new holes in my dog-working pants :-))

Stacy
