Mike, dogs dont have rationalized thinking like humans, so either they have enough natural drive to do the job, or they are trained up and will fail when going gets tough, either way, they dont give a rats ass what their owner thinks about the situation

Duke that is not exactly true ... GS- if they have good menatlity [ and they SHOULD ] , have also good Discernment. To discern is to make a judgement requiring not only intelligence, but an ability to think and choose in certain contexts . If a dog did not have the ability to do this then every friend we have that walked into our house welcomed , a dog that had natural instinct to bite , well ... they would take a bite. Dogs can Inductively Reason , not Deductively Reason ! How can I liken this : I had a client who was a State Policeman - he learned that I trained dogs. On his day off , while in plain clothes, he took his K9 police dog by my office for me to see . He called me out to say hello to the dog . He let his dog out of his car off leash as I stood right front of him talking with him . Dog came over off** leash** , aloof , sat near us and that was that . The dog , his Police K9 was a fantastic dog with great discernment !! I said to him .. "where o' where did you get this dog, what I dog you have !! " .

Koots, you were talking about home invasions, armed robberies and auto theft, and how the police dog is often able to achieve compliance by their presence alone. This call involves a home invasion and also an unrelated incident where the guy thinks he’s pulling up to a road block for him. The car he was driving was, you guessed it, stolen. He was also carrying warrants for prior auto thefts. Those calls definitely kept you busy.
While there were no bites at the end, he was only tracking for one reason. And it wasn’t to make me happy; it had nothing to do with me.
