Baerenfangs perhaps he does not mean low drive but CALM or a dog that has an OFF switch,
Many people are involved with dogs for years yet have never bred one or whelped a litter, it does not mean that they do not have an understanding of what they are doing.

Baerenfangs, your very name might imply your the one who has little or no knowledge of service dogs-Westernrider, yes my dog is calm, and ive had many a litter of pups ranging from pitbulls, english bulldogs rotts and a multitude of cur and fiest dogs for hunting over the past 50 yrs- My GSD is a service dog, oversized and the female is a short but thick. the challenge here was the difference in height which is appx 6 inches. my male is green but the female seasoned.

As for Service Dogs. I train them every day. And if someone is truly experienced they know the difference between drive and balance! I haven't said anything derogatory, I simply asked a question based on what information he has provided. And the information given raised a number red flags.
If you want to breed Service Dogs, you breed for the total dog. Not for something specific. You don't breed for Sport, or LE or Service Dogs. You breed the total dog and that's how you get suitable SD candidates. The first and foremost attribute is Balance, Confidence and Strong Nerve as well as a rather high food drive to train and condition said dogs.
How my name has anything to do with knowing or not known anything about Service Dogs goes beyond me.

But Mike did not come here asking for your opinion of his service dog. Therefore you are summarizing a man's credibility from incomplete description by him.
Mike came here asking for advice about the physics of his breeding dogs. You have attacked him with your holier than thou attitude per service dogs. That is not the subject of this thred.
And why do you have a 'need to know' about Mike's service dog' ? Sounds like just being nosey and condemning with minimal information.
Your screen name suggests the nasty side of a one's countenance...jmo.
