So the excuse is this high competition IPO dogs that fail get a IPO III certification for free
with a Big Mac, makes clear to me thanks....

A scared  dog is a scared dog showline or this fancy IPO working dogs (who are the real deal) .......than we can discuss about the level courage test between

That's the point I was trying to make.....dogs can be "conditioned" to get through stress but that's not genetic.

You can train at different locations with different helpers but the truth is genetics will be what it is and you may cover it up but it will always still be there.

So, a dog that has poor genetics will be trained for IPO and "conditioned" to be ok working at different locations with different handlers and then be bred. Bad genes in genepool. Those dogs should be culled from breeding pool and neutered/spayed.

That's on the breeders to stop breeding those dogs that are 'conditioned" to get through stressful performance. A good dog should not blink an eye at different situations. My bitch was worked by three different handlers including a PSA/Mondio handler and at 3 different locations and the results were the same because it shouldn't matter. Yet, people tell me she is sh*t because she doesn't have an IPO title to go with her other titles. Please. IPO is a big time commitment and not everyone can commit but that doesn't always mean dogs who don't have IPO titles are inferior. I would take my bitch over a podium dog that has been "conditioned" to get through stress because genetically they are weak nerved.

IPO is a SPORT and bad genetics still compete and win. Doesn't mean all IPO dogs are "conditioned" to withstand stress but some are which is why IPO is not a test for breed worthiness. To tell people, just "condition" your dog to different situations is crap. A good GSD doesn't need conditioning. 

The truth is that pedigrees mean jack sh*t. Podium or performance results mean jack sh*t. What matters is the dog in front of your face.
 

Frankly, I don't even want to know how many dogs walked out of that Stadium injured because of the back half helper. It makes me angry. I know of at least one dog where retirement is in the picture because he got jammed up so bad it's not even funny!

sure, no fun if the dog being injured but any living creature could be injured.
that's why mother nature placed up on surviving scale those individuals, whose physic and agility makes them less prone to injuries and the good health in unfortunate event does allow them for fast recovery.
we're not discussing here french bulldogs or chihuahuas, right?

This is the result of ipo training And breeding dogs rather as a circus act ( flashy nonsense obedience / useless tracking ) than a real protection dog and breeders and trainers focusing on high prey but zero aggression or fight drive because after each ipo session you gotta be able to do therapy work and it's not a balanced dog unless anyone can give your dog a rectal examination. This is the goal of ipo and fci 

I think this year's championship pointed out the necessity for trainers to train 'outside the box' and vary the bitework scenarios.

Koots, trainers, who plan to participate in IPO competition, train their dogs to what IPOs judges expect them to be show.
"out of box" training pretty much could warranty no chance on win, because sport dog is just that, a sport dog and selected
by potential participants exactly for this purpose.

total agree with you Smiley genetics we can,t change with conditioning

My point is train with different hard and strong decoys and unknown locations  makes  your dog stronger .
I don,t like conditioning step by step because @ the end of the day you will foolish yourself.

a weaker dog who don,t have it I wash the dog out, but you only will find out challenge your dog to an
other level,don,t stay in the same modus.

Better train with hard strong and mean decoys to the limit,than with  average decoys... IMO

Honestly, those decoys were not prepared for what was coming at them. GSD's are not Shepherds and when a dog, that is 40 pound havier than a Mal is flying down the field, they don't know what hit them. And that's what we saw. They were unprepared and people are pissed!
