Nor would I recommend a Schutzhund dog to be a guide dog. That's what is so great about German Shepherds: they are capable of many types of tasks. Why? They have cognitive ability to do so .However, they may not be everyone's choice as guiding dogs but they are very much capable of this task as much as other breeds like Labs, for instance. They are protection / herding dogs in the first place. At the beginning, they were meant to assist he police officer in his duties. In addition, to keep the flocks and homes safe at the farms. And like others dogs they posses a great sniffing nose as well. In my opinion, KNPV sport is the closest thing to untapping the potentials of this breed. Only the ones with nerves of steel, clear heads, rock solid temperaments, and the unfainted- hearted can excel.

KNPV is a great sport. The demands of which would weed out those GSD's with genetic maladies such as HD and ED. I'm going to catch some heat for this. I believe if a GSD with HD or ED could compete successfully over a lengthy period of time in KNPV. This dog is a candidate for breeding. There is more intensity in KNPV than in the C phase of schutzhund. Having said this please refrain from using such words as violence when refering to our sports. There are organizations that want to see our beloved sports banned. Using such negative words as violence as describing our sport is only giving them amunition. Kyle

Now if you said, you're bringing the sport to the USA, I'd say let's get with it!  But, what's the point of an english speaking forum where few (if any) members of it will have any actual expertise or involvement in knpv?

I love watching KNPV videos online. The male I'm breeding to my female this time is a Belgium import with his SchH 3, and IPO3 and a ton of KNPV dogs in his pedigree.

Gardefense has some cool hard hitting videos of KNPV GSD's. There is actually a Pike son named Gideon Gardéfense that has some amazing videos.

I wasn't aware that there was any KNPV training clubs in the U.S. though. Could be wrong.

Given that there are only 3 dogs in the USA that have ever  titled to PSA 3,  (& Not for lack of trying or dog shortages)  Im curious as to how you arrive at your statement of..

"KNPV is more inclusive, demanding, and challenging than PSA. "

A PSA 3 title is indeed an amazing accomplishment.   And there is really no such thing as routine in PSA. At times,  testing scenarios can be made up on the spot. One must rehearse many different scenarios.

One of the local guys has a bunch of Dutch Shepherds, one of which is an amazing KNPV producer.  I remember him saying in the past that he was going to try and do some KNPV seminars when he got settled into his home...I'm definetley in for learning more about it :)

The sport is definetley brutal though - his stud is absolutley bonkers - and is missing all four canines as a result of his training in Holland - but he does produce some really nice, serious pups.  I believe he is the only dog to produce and entire litter that went on to be titled in KNPV (and it wasnt a small litter O.o)

Count me in for any kind of learning about KNPV :)  I want to be involved in Dutchies in the future...and it's something i would really like to learn more about!
