Well, for one, they are illegal in some states:  http://www.wolfdogalliance.org/legislation/statelaws.html .  Two, they are usually very shy/nervous around humans.  Three, with so many great domestic dog breeds to choose from, why breed a wild animal with a dog?

I use to actually watch that show on a regular basis. He was a little off but I can respect his attitude. He didn't try to make his wolves calm or human like but insteac he tried to become more wolf like.

He tried to introduce his wife to the pack and they roughed her up pretty bad. She left him not sure if they got a divorce or not

I had a customer who spent  $12,000.00 for the HYBRID wolf dog., shipped from South Carolina to Van, Texas , wild and anxious and skiddish..kept it for one year...sent it back for problems..they said they fixed it...sent it back at his cost for shipping.

This customer owned a big deep sea diving company behind me. HE met me one day and said  I DO NOT KNOW WHAT TO DO>?

I laughed.'

TOLD HIM:  I TOLD YOU SO!!

HE spent $1, 500 then for obedience..and 1000.00 for vet bills..DOG was eating his legs.

A month later I met him on back road riding three wheelers, and he said   YOU WILL NOT BELIEVE!

I replied : I TOLD YOU SO!!

Next month he sent back to South Carolina and they charged him $3, 400.00 for 6 months of board, keep and obedience and behaviour modification..'
SHipping back to him..
Three months later he knocked on my door one  night and said....I am gonna have fo Shoot this animal..I have all this money in it and nothing has changed.

My Reply :  I told you so!!

HE spent another 2,000.00 to another trainer in OKLAHOMA to retrain the dog...NOTHING CHANGED>>>dog  was a NERVE BAG STILL..IF YOU CHAINED IT to a 100 pound boat anchor you could keep it from hiding and running and snarling.

"END OF STORY''

No more HYBRID  MIXING of anything.

NO I did not sell him one of mine..    I   HAD TOLD  HIM SO!!   FROM THE DAY I MOVED TO VAN.

Dog training does not work on hybrids because they are not dogs. If you want a dog, get a dog. If you want the ego trip of owning a wild animal, get a wolf or wolf hybrid and enjoy watching it live in neurotic misery it's whole life.  Last one I worked with was terrified at the sight of any strange man, flew to the end of the leash so bad it nearly broke my finger and crapped everywhere. Not a happy animal and whoever was responsible for its creation deserved a punch in the face.

KCaja:   YOU are correct   AMEN AMeN AMEN ...

Do you have any idea how much money these breeders in south carolina and other places are charging and making off of these  MIXES?

HE FOUND AN AD IN EITHER  DOG FANCY OR ANOTHER PERIODICAL AND FROM THERE HE SPENT PROBABLY CLOSE TO $16.000.00  JUST BECAUSE HE BELIEVED WHAT HE READ ON AN AD AND WHAT THEY CHOSE TO MAKE  HIM THINK...

THIS MAN WAS A BIG BUSINESS MAN AND MONEY WAS NO OBJECT.

but   FUNNY HOW HE ALWAYS CAME TO ME, KNOWING WHAT HE SAW IN THE KENNELS OUT SIDE MY HOME...AND NOT HAVING BOUGHT ONE OF MINE IN THE FIRST PLACE....AND NOW HE HAD TO CRY IN HIS  beer>>>SO TO SPEAK.

i DID NOT HOLD THE mug FOR HIM..  LOL

"Why not?". I don't know. Maybe the same reason I wouldn't go out and buy a fricken Bobcat. Just exemplifies how much you know about animals and genetics.

Dances with wolves........................And leave it there. Love when individuals with either money or egos think thay can alter/control the wild, doesn't matter what kind of animal. In the last month I think two were killed just by zoo animals, one was even an accident. (elephant, they think he didn't even know/felt he crushed the woman). And one had fingers bitten off by chimps. Can't remember if it was a jealousy thing between the chimps. Reporters didn't have enough info?

A friend of mine had one.  It died a couple of years' ago -- if I recall correctly, it was about 10-11 years old.  It lived in the house.   No problem at all with it.   The husband traveled frequently for his job, and he knew that his wife was safe with their wolf-dog.

Don -- not everyone thinks as you do.   I didn't realize that you are an animal and genetics expert.

yes wolves have very powerful jaws in the wild they hunt moose and kill large animals for a living, in some cases they will kill hunting dogs but they are NOT PETs

they will chew up your house they will piss and crap everywhere like the above poseter said they need to live like wild animals so if someone had one they would need a huge space of enclosed land with trees and a daily supply of roadkill

not something u are going to take for walks or something that is going to "protect"  you they are totally out of their eliment living with man they just are not meant for it they thrive only in the wild or a wild type setting

so for the life of me i dont know why anyone would want such an animal unless it was for educational reasons for public or for some sor t of a conservation project or wildlife rehab for a zoo etc.

there are so many wolf like mutts out there or breeds like husky there is no need to go and mess up some wild animals life for yourselfish reasons
