Whelping them inside is your best bet. Another idea, maybe you can go ask around in the neighborhood to see if someone would sell you a kiddy pool.

Do not put too close to the fireplace...dogs body will generate heat....gather wood and put it in a  patio burner or one of those  outdoor patio fireplaces that Lowes has on sale for  $99.00

butane heaters or   do you have a barb que  Pit?

My big bar B Que pit has a burner on one end....I open my sunroom patio door ,,,wheel it right in\to the room shut door and leave a crack...

Put a big pot on the grill of WATER....then every now and then put on the burner....this keeps the CARBON  MONOXIDE from accumulating....

but it heats a room and more evenly than a fireplace....Keep your fireplace lit and plenty of wood...but the barbque pit can serve a dual purpose.....if no generator....I keep many butane bottles full and ready...I can burn wood in a  metal tub if I have to...but my barbque pit has saved me many times...coffee in a camp coffee pot is great...had to remember how my mom made coffee 60 years ago...

Keep some kerosene or oil lamps ready along with extra wicks...and    big candles for light...you can warm blankets by the fireplace....but too warm a room is bad for mom and babies so keep them at a distance with blankets under them and no drafts.....good luck...wish I lived close I would come help...I am having   PUPPY WITHDRAWALS>>>>been almost 2 years.....!!!!!!  I suffer from  PUPPYOLIC..........

Geeze, don't ever bring a BBQ inside to use to cook or as a heat source.  People die doing that.  There are a few propane heaters that can be used, also oil heaters, check the directions.  If you use wood, use a real wood stove or fireplace, not a firepit or bbq.  Same with a generator, don't bring it inside.

If there in the garage start the car up, the exhaust will warm them up nicely.

I have used my barb que pit for the last 10 yrs when electricity goes off...I know how to use it...I said  leave the door cracked and use a big pan of water on the grill...of course someone is gonna negate it...

I know how to do it...I am not gonna freeze..my barbque pit sits in the sun room....by the patio door..plenty of venilation... use it to boil water and to heat the food and blankets......cook and has a big butane bottle on it...just like a butane heater does....same thing  same unit working a differnt way..

If you do not know how to vent it   THEN DO NOT USE IT>....  This is a huge stainless steel  unit with many features and is not harmful...NOW IF a   drunk or a dummie is operating it...then  yes....do not bring it inside...

I would bring them inside, FP will be more than enough, but if you run out of wood , like others have stated, the propane tanks. I know for a fact that lowes has one you hook up to a propane tank, $99.00, I want to say up to 90,000 btus. This heater IS NOT a torpedo heater but a standing cylander/stack that heats a 360 degree radius and by closing the top part to different levels you can control heat output. Just make sure to vent the widows. I wenrt to buy one a few days ago and my Lowes was sold out so you might not get one? Other options;
Just candles alone will heat a room, as long as the room is closed off. Even if no source heat, and being indoors I would think there will be enough warmth. If still worried. a 4X8 sheet and 2 2x4s would make a whelping box in a rush, 4X4' floor/base with side walls from 9''-16'. 2X4s for the inside ledge. If all else fails any place that you can contain the body heat; closet etc. Good luck and keep us updated.

Well, this was the same dog I was worried about delivering natural after a c-section, so far we have 6 healthy, naturally delivered females, at least one but maybe two more. I hoped we'd beat the storm but that stinker went into labor 23 hours and 45 minutes after I caught the temp drop.

My poor puppy whelping single mom friend who has been here since last night is now stranded at my house. If you are in my area, you need to know Leslie Wooldridge is an awesome person for helping me birth my babies during this mess.

So far power is fine but with we still have a LOT more snow coming our way. Stacks of wood by the fireplace ready if needed but at least all the kiddos should be safely delivered. Keep your fingers crossed for my last one or two, lord help us if we need to run out in this disaster, pretty nasty out here already.
