Diane Jessup

Well, if she was microchipped, we'd all know who her POS breeder/owner was...

Which is why so many breeders don't microchip (in my opinion).  Hard to dump a chipped dog.

Hexe, that's precisely my issue here along with the fact that the poor girl was clearly just a breeding machine and when she turned up with a tumor the breeder promptly discarded her.  Makes me want to hurl.

I just spent countless hours and money trying to get one of my pups back from someone who can't keep her any longer and that was one of the most agonizing experiences of my life.  I will NOT discard anything that comes from my house.  Rehoming as you mentioned is a good thing.  This situation is not and it makes me so angry.  I'm sure the dog has a tatoo since it appears that she was imported from Germany.  That won't identify the breeder here who threw her away but it might provide a clue to where she came from initially and possibly a trail to the breeder here.  I sure would like to know which POS breeder in the Chicago area did this.

She's a German import who apparently was titled...so she's tattooed, which would tell you (a) her registered name, and (b) who her last recorded owner was, if someone wanted to pursue finding out who dumped her with the rescue.

Or one could probably just ask them (the rescue)...

Edited to add: I was all set to contact them about adopting her until I got to the part where she doesn't do well with 'dominant females'.             With an almost 15 year old female who doesn't need any added aggravation in her life and a just turned 1 year old female who's still settling in here, I can't risk adding a bitch that could upset the balance right now.   I hope she's able to find a good, loving, forever home soon..

I'm working on the tattoo angle.  Rescue says in their post that they won't give up the papers.  So my guess is that they won't give out any information either other than behavior stats.  Hexe, wouldn't you think that if the dog was turned in because of a tumor that the rescue would have had that checked out before putting the dog up for placement?  I'm thinking that they wouldn't adopt out a dog that was terminal.  What do you think?

If somebody can get the tattoo, I will contact the SV and try to find out the rest of her information. What a shame!

Given that she's 7 years old and had been used for breeding until recently, I'd expect that the tumor she had was probably a mammary tumor, which has a 50/50 chance of being malignant...but malignant doesn't automatically mean terminal, because most of the malignant mammary tumors AREN'T metastatic and surgical removal of the mass and the affected gland(s) is curative in those instances.  And even in those few cases where the lesion is of the metastatic variety, surgical removal can buy the dog a few years if the lungs are still clear...so I'd expect that she had the tumor removed when she had the spay done (probably paid for by the rescue), and got  an 'all clear' path report, or they'd have mentioned that she's only got a few years left because she still has cancer.

Of course, without contacting them, that's just a guess on my part.

Edited for spelling error.

Thanks Hexe.  Good info.

Chris, I'm trying to get the tattoo.  I'll let you know what I find out.  The rescue may or may not give up the info.

I have someone who is going there tomorrow to try to adopt the dog.  If so, I'll have the tattoo#.
