i love this debate. I have to agree with slamdunc. just one question,, where are the "showline" dogs at the WUSV? How about the BSP? FCI? john

Looked like bad helper work to me. I could be wrong but how often to helpers continue with stick work on a dog that's not engaged? I've never seen anything like that before. But like I said I could be wrong on this and would love to know if this is normal helper procedure.

yes it is the rule that if the dog comes off the sleeve for the helper to take the attack to the dog. if the dog fails to re-engage then the judge will call a stop and the dog fails. if the dog rebites the sleeve and stays on work continues.

OMG this is so funny. Two VA dogs at last year's Sieger Show come off the sleeve and still get rated "pronounced" to the applause of the audience and stud fees to follow. Then somebody digs up a video of one dog at a WUSV that is chased and tries to make a point??? So where are the rest of the show dogs in the WUSV? Last year there was one, with Ivan as his handler. So where are the rest of these bad a$$ show dogs? Are they too busy trotting around a ring in a circle? Pity more handlers don't take their dogs seriously and develop their full potential!

Another point that strikes my funny bone... the OP says we shouldn't "generalize" about dogs, but proceeds this comment by generalizing... identifying a generalization that he calls "working line" and then one called "show lines". Hmmm... if we aren't supposed to generalize, why is atarths doing what he/she says ought not be done? D'oh! There's a reason why the types are called what they are. It's not just stereotyping. There is a difference. Show dogs are bred to excel in the conformation ring and if they do good in performance work then all the better. Working line dogs are bred to excel in performance work and if they do good in the show ring then all the better. Viva la difference!

GSD guy, thanks for posting all those links of good working dogs. I've added them to my favorites, just like I did to the 2008 SS "performance test". Now when people ask to see the difference I got good links to send them. Thanks!

now, now, no need to get nasty, lol. im not sure what the rules are for bite work before working class dogs at the seiger show. attack out of the blind and a courage test if my memory serves me right. at least they are taking out the ability to "work the dog up" before the long bite.
