Always happy to do some curbside PR for our breed.

How is it socializing if you don't let people touch the dog?
I always thank people and praise children for their manners when they are polite (and smart) enough to ask.

Me too ^_^ We have our local pet expo coming up, and it's 3 days of THOUSANDS of people coming in to look at dog exhibits. I'm sure a couple hundred people touch my dogs over the weekend, and none of them ever come out the worse for wear (knock wood). Allowing people to approach myself and my dogs and touch them not only allows them to see that not all Shepherds are "mean", but also makes it possible for them to set up a repoir, and for me to possibly be able to educate them.

A German Shepherd is supposed to be aloof, it is a working dog and cannot do his job if he is trying to get a pat from everyone that walks by, he is to concentrate on his master and his job, whatever that may be.
So to answer the OP question, no, I try not too, but some people just don't understand and she does end up being coddled as she is a friendly pup and a LH to boot, so the cute factor makes it hard.
