You worry too much so you overfeeding him, I had the same thing with my pup I was worrying so much that I mix too much sh** and she had runs lol just slow down let her tell you how much food and when she needs, She seems to know better than me lol. Ha Ha Ha. I always get it wrong. :)

To who ever wrote that for pup is better to be lean than chunky? Is that true? My female is lean nice looking actually, but I always worry that she is underweight lol. The vet keeps telling me its a big and healthy puppy no stress, but than what the hell he knows he breeds Golden R. lol hahaha.

THanks everyone... I'm off to the vet.

The pups poop was checked within 24 hours of arrival.. no issues at all and it was solid.

THe older pup has always had issues off and on... I think you guys are right, I am overfeeding them, and don't need the vitamins.. I am using a high quality kibble.

I will report asap

thanks,

Jacob, Kristi, Rama, and Akeelah

First and easiest is to do a fecal test on both for Giardia and Coccidia.

However, with Coccidia your pup would eventually become very dehydrated and stop being active, and with Giardia, it can linger for yrs.  Though the dogs are skinny and never gain weight with Giardia.

Its likely the pup brought it in and its very contagious and it needs to be taken care of in either Cocci or Giardia.   (30+ % of dogs in the USA are now infected with Giardia)  My vet can diagnose Giardia at his clinic.   So since its becoming so prevelant most vets will know.

Just bring the stool sample to save yourself some $$$

Then, add Green Tripe from the can, (Merricks or Solid Gold)  a table spoon in the 14 month old  and a teaspoon in the 4

month old.   I didn't have any luck with the canned pumpkin.

Worst case scenario its EPI, which is not likely as it can not be diagnosed until 9months of age.

And yes, go raw if you can....

I also would rule out a medical (as in giardia/coccoida) problem first..I'd also get rid of all those supplements and start clean, and I'd also cut back on the amounts.

My adult 80lb male gets 1.5 cups dry 2x daily, to which I add about a cup of raw.

My 5mth old puppy gets 2 cups dry 2x daily to which I add about 1/2 cup of raw. (she's still thin, rangey and very energetic)

When mine have episodes of diarhea from "whatever", usually a bone or something,,I use a mixture of ground chicken poached in chicken broth, to which I add cooked brown rice and a can of pure pumpkin, They not only love it, it helps settle their stomaches.

THANKS EVERYONE FOR YOUR HELP!!!

I saw the new vet, which is a guy I used once before and he suggested that I use Dr. Hills I-D Canine Diet for both pups for just a week or so to get their stomachs straight and then ween them off onto a quality kibble, but he actually thought that the Wysong was too rich, and Iams or Eukanuba would be o.k.

I am interested to see what you guys think after that advice.....  ( I did get a decent poop out of the 14 week old this afternoon a couple hours after lunch. ) .... still waitin for the 8 month old's poo.... I did notice both dogs very lathargic after lunch, (which was kinda nice.... usually I have to make them lay down ( for their own safety) as they want to go nuts after they eat )

Thanks,

Jacob

Skip the Iams and Eukanuba and go with a higher quality food. All of our GSDs do very well on Evanger's. I have friends who feed their GSDs Blue Buffalo and others who feed Innova. If I wasn't feeding the Evanger's I would go with one of those. Prairie is another good one to look into, I've fed their raw brand (Nature's Variety) and was very pleased with it, just too pricey when you have 8+ dogs.

We fast all of our dogs at least one day a week, after they are about 4-5 months old. Works well for us.

Oh, and someone above already said it, but canned pumpkin is great for firming up stools. Plain white rice will do the trick as well.

Leaner is better for a large breed, less stress on the joints.

Here's an interesting comparison tool for foods

What I have used to treat diarrhea is apple sauce. No cinnamon, no added suger, just plain old apple sauce. It's gentle on their stomach, they enjoy the flavor, and can hold off the vet for the weekend if nessisary.

Take care, and good luck

***I am NOT saying this a cure for proper veterinary care, but rather it is a band-aid for short term until the dog(s) can see a vet.***

Thanks again....

I have the same looking firmer, (not solid) but formed poos from both dogs now. I think I will skip the Iams/Eukanuba and the Wysong and go with something in the middle.

Thanks very much,

Jacob

If the diarrhea persists, it might be worth running the tests for EPI.  Dogs don't always 'read the book' on diseases.

Poor dog's.....................

Bottled water come's right out of a tap just like the one in your kitchen sink....................

Three time's a day is too many feeding's................................

Too many additive's and designer food...........................

Feed any quality dog food once a day for the 8 month old and twice a day for the 14 week old, feed them dry all they will eat for 20 minute's then remove the food .   Take notice of how much they eat in 20 minute's and start adjusting feed amount's.

Unless you need to feed lamb and rice why do it?

Keep it simple.

Use a little common sense, if the dog's still have cronic diarrhea go see the vet.
