4pack

I had to buy Chicken Soup last bag because it's much cheaper than what I was feeding. Thankfully $ isn't an issue anymore and I am going to pick up some TOTW today. I really want to feed EVO but Baden is still under 24 months and Dasti my 5 month old eats whatever I buy Baden. Can't feed those levels of protein Molly was refering to at such an age.

I have no qualms with Diamond. I also buy their Diamond Naturals for my rescue. There are many places in  my area that carry TOTW and it is $44.99 a 30lbs bag. EVO is $50.99 at 28lbs and EVO Red Meat is $59.99.

I still feed RAW. I pick up meat when I see it reasonably priced. If I run out before finding more, I feed kibble. SInce I feed allot of RAW chicken I opted for the Prairie mix to add red meat to their diets. The wetlands variety has allot of game birds, turkey, duck, pheasant. Both have some fish but not enough for sufficient omegas, so I add salmon oil on top of the kibble.

like the pacific stream one as my gal is only 12mos old.

wondering if i have to supplement glucosamine as i don't see it there or not required.

first i fed innova and didn't do good and loose stools and then change to royal canine for the last three bags already now has seen similar but stools are firm and no smelly and less.

orelse i'vn't seen much difference neither the coat wise.

don't know if this would make a difference in her.

is this product been a year or so only? orelse i'd like to know if anyone been feeding more than a year or so.

thanks

I read somewhere that the amount of glucosamine added to dog food is basically a marketing strategy.  The amounts that are added are minimal and really not enough to make a difference.  It sounds good in the advertising, and thats about it.

Also, if you are feeding a glucosamine supplement, know where it is manufactured.  Not uncommon for in to be imported from China.

Also.. check lables on those "Natural" and "Organic" dried chicken treats that are common at the pet stores.  They may be distributed locally, but for the most part they are from China.  Need I say anymore?

Bully Stix are a great chew for your dogs - BUT - Although for the most part I search for made in the USA items, remember that most of our cattle are raised with hormones, etc. so your dog is ingesting those homones also (as well as us).   I personally will not buy any meat for myself or my dogs unless it says organic/homone free/antibiotic free/etc.   I found some Bully Stix online that are from Range grazed/homone free cattle. http://www.bestbullysticks.com/ and they have great prices.

Although I don't give my dogs Rawhide,  for those of you that do - read your labels.  They can be very misleading.  In big letters it may say AMERICAN BEEFHIDE..but if you read the small print, it is usally processed in China.  Other countries use some pretty nast chemicals to process the hide, which in turn is ingested by your dog.

Don't be fooled by marketing strategies...

Hello,

I am glad that this post was written. I was thinking about writing one on Taste of the Wild yesterday, but, got too busy at work.

I have to agree with you about this food. I have tried most of the others mentioned above and they are all good foods (except the Royal Canin), but, quite expensive. Taste of the Wild is a great food. I have a Czech/DDR female that has EPI and she is doing great on this food. My Boxer/AmStaff has the smallest poops I have ever seen come out of my dogs. My other three dogs are also doing great and they all love this food. All of them have much smaller poops. It is great to find a good quality grain-free kibble that does not break the bank. In the Chicagoland area at Pet Supplies Plus I am paying 39.95 for a 30lb. bag. I also like the fact that the protein levels are not over the top.

Highly Recommend Taste of the Wild.

Recently switched from Wellness Whitefish to Taste of the Wild (Bison and Venison).  I was having loose stools with Wellness on my Mali and my husband's youngster.  If anyone living in Michigan is interested in making me a deal on 15 bags of Wellness, I'm willing to make a deal.  Contact me privately.

K-9 on the east side has Taste of the Wild for 32.99 plus tax.

by Blitzen on 13 June 2008 - 01:06

I've been feeding Blitz TOTW for about 4 months now. He's normally an easy keeper and good eater, but on TOTW his coat has improved, he seems to have a bit better muscle tone, he doesn't scratch as much and his stools are much smaller and firmer than when he ate RC. I think RC is also a good food, but I wanted to feed a grain-free kibble.

Around here we can buy TOTW at Tractor Supply.   It's  $42.89 including the 6% PA sales tax for a 30 lb bag. I can't find Orijen anywhere and think it is really overpriced. I also fed him 3 bags of EVO, also overpriced IMO,  and he had gas so bad that he drove us out of the house plus his stools were not well formed. So I decided to try TOTW and I'm glad I did. BTW I alternate feeding both varieties.

The owner of the kennel where we board Blitz asked what was in his food container as every dog that passed by it stopped and smelled it acting as if they wanted some.

Thanks richogsd: IVe been preaching all this for months...read labels...no rawhide...it is treated with chemicals.....no smoked things....treated with chemicals... no dyed no beggin treats....they dont tell you what done to these things,,,they just say natural Your bathtub is natural....do you eat it....you steering wheels on your cars are natural do you feed it...no Cool whip is natural pertroleum...do you feed it...or eat it yes shouldnt. Lots of these things on the market are coming from China or Mexico ,,just like the tomatoes...they use manure from chickens where do you think Salmanilla comes from chicken dodo....these things in our dog foods grains filled with nasy stuff is grown on fields , fast grow and diluged with fertilizers with you dont know what....cause they dont care...its going into dog food.....so manure for cats, dogs, the zoo , chicken houses and bird houses are used....what do you think is in that food your feeding and all those treats...... and then they stick in a big WORD called Vitiman K activity...aka Menadione......a chemical./and boy you think you got it made ...sorry...folks. Commercial dog food companies like Nestles, and colgate Polmolive dont give a buffalo nickel; and that a nice way of saying it....about your dogs health...lie on the labels and spend money on that sack writing to make you believe their lies...I spent 6 months arguing with Nutro Max on the other thread , about their dog food and the diahrea it was causing and like jyl on the other thread said ,,,they finally admitted taking it off for a change...

I have 1 Rottie , 1 Finnish Spitz,  1 Jack Russel, 1 Minature Schnauzer on TOTW.  I absolutely love it.

I have been feeding Diamond for 20 yrs now.  I have 1 Rottie, 1 GSD, and 2 Labradors on Diamond Hi-Protien.

I buy it from Pet Supplies Plus(39.95 for a 30lb bag)(1.33 per pound).  Evo Large Bite, Red Meat....28.6 lb bag for 57.99(2.02 per pound)

Royal Canin is 35lbs for 46.00.  That is1.31 per pound.

Oh, yea, and they make a cat formula, that is cheaper than any other cat food out there(decent foods).  I bought a 15 lb bag for something like $25.00(Less than 1.56 per pound).  I can't even touch a 20lb bag of Eukanuba for less than $35.00(1.75 per pound)

I had my assistance dog, Rottie bitch, Largo on Wellness(C.O.R.E.) and she had horrid gas.  Plus the cost put me off.

I am a firm believer in measuring food with an 8 oz measuring cup.  Just scooping up the bowl encourages overfeeding(if you do this, I would encourage you to try measuring it.  And use an 8 oz cup, and follow the directions)

My Rottie(female, assistance dog)(80lbs) eats 2.5 cups of TOTW per day.  The Finnish Spitz(30lbs) eats 1.5 cups, the JRT(14lbs)1.5 cups(he is small, but high metabolism) and the Schnauzer(25lbs, needs to be 20lbs) eats 1/2-1 cup per day.

My GSD gets 3 cups(84lbs, needs to be down to 80lbs), the Male Rottie(85lbs) 3-4 cups, the Labs 4 cups each of the Diamond High pro.

All the large dogs get a cup of RAW in the AM, Dry food at night(bedtime).  The small dogs get a 1/2 cup of raw in the AM, dry at bedtime.

I dearly love the food, and will continue to recommend it.  If you travel, especially by air, you can check online and have it shipped where you need to go.  I have done this in the past(2 weeks in Missouri for the Beauceron Journee).  It was just easier than trying to buy it there.

I have been feeding a raw diet to all my dogs for years. My youngest hasn't really done well on a raw diet. He has allergies I had not been able to isolate with an elimination diet. For nearly a year, this poor dog suffered, with terrible scratching, losing a lot of fur on the tops of his ears. I did thyroid testing, ear meds, had a vet even try to tell me he had sarcoptic mange, which of course he didn't. I finally decided to try him on a kibble to see if I could figure out what was going on. I tried California Natural Lamb and Rice, and he did a bit better. Then I met the distributor for Taste of the Wild. I took some samples, and my young guy loved it. I can say, that after almost three weeks of feeding this to him, his coat is better, he has stopped scratching, he isn't shaking his head, the fur is starting to grow back on the tops of his ears, and to date, no gastro issues with the switch.

I seriously had concerns over using this product because of the high prot levels 32% and it being a Diamond product(I am not a fan of their's). However, I am extremely pleased with how my young guy has recovered while using this product. He switched from raw to this without any issues. I had been told by the distributor that some dogs do not do well on it, because the level is so high and they aren't use to it. My guy switched nicely. I am also using it as bait on the track for him.

Would  this be too rich for young dogs? I have two 9 week pups and a 5 month old. Any suggestions if not this food? My 5 month old is allergic to chicken I was looking at their fish version. Had him on Canidae Lamb and Rice but they just changed the formula and now add barley, rice bran, millet. This pup can't eat barley either. Was ready to put him on raw but I'm a student and only have a small dorm frige.

Looking for input.
