"I gather that Carlos means to offer a purse of $ 50.000 next year; heck, I ‘ll triple it, drum up a handful of retired judges at the right price and publicity-seeking showpeople, and launch my own private conformation razzmatazz. After all, only in America …"
Is this the problem, you can't get to the judge to grease his palm so you get the win? ....or is it because you cut your teeth in show dogs and can't find one to compete with at a national level.
I can not believe the ignorance that this has produced. I knew there were haters out there but WOW!
Why, oh, why, would the SV or FCI have issues with this? The judges are not going to sign score books, Titles will not be earned. The dogs belong and are owned by private people and not property of the SV or FCI. The FCI and SV do not own the grounds the event will be held at. I don't think there is any nullification for making money with your dog. So what is the difference if the dog gets a staring role in a movie and makes money. Perhaps the SV and FCI could learn from the Olympic style judging and make it mandatory at all world events. I would take it a step further and have 9 judges, 3 for each phase! Now go ahead and schmooze all those judges.
"Launch my own private conformation razzmatazz"
Maybe one event can be, who has a showline GSD as big as a pony.
Then your dog can make you extra money by giving pony rides at parties.
This Masters event can get positive media attention for our GSD. Everyone is bitiching about legislation of our dogs. What better way than to have the elite in our sport display them head to head.
People are hating because they did not come up with it. Grow up and get over it. Nothing would ever change if you clowns were in charge. You are the same group that schedules meetings to have meetings and can't figure out why nothing ever gets done.

This is a rather funny thread about an event that should be rather good. It amazes me that people need to feel that they must tear something down, be nasty for no reason, be verbous with saying little to nothing.
How many people have been able to see some of the competitors that are able to come actually compete at a World event? Probably very few. This is a taste of what people might see at the World event that will be in the US this year. Mr. Rojas is doing the correct thing - post competitors as they accept. If people want to know if certain competitors are invited, call them yourself and ask them yes or no.
This is Mr. Rojas's event, supported and funded. Invitation only to competitors that have been in World events since 2000, per Mr Rojas' previous post(oh, smacks of criteria). And one would assume that such a competitor would have to have a current dog to be able to compete (smack again
). Mr. Rojas posted his telephone number for people to call. Has anyone taken him up on his offer?
There have been such trials in Europe. Do your research.
And the true education is that there will always be negative people, detractors for everything. If is not their way or people agreeing, they must be stupid, igornant or some other rant.

Excuse me, Mr. Speaknow??

Where did speaknow go?

Pat,
Try not to be overly impressed with Speaknow's five dollar words, a thesaurus is not expensive. It is too bad, however, that a thesaurus does not really show one how to use these words properly; as is obvious from Speaknow's post. For the record, I actually did go to one of those schools with the jacket and tie; I hated it. I will also add that I am quite certain Speaknow would have received a fat "F" from my english teacher for this post (he was a SOB).
Anyhow Speaknow, I ask what is so fundamentally wrong with offering a cash prize in an event such as this. These participants are, indeed, some of the top people and dogs in the sport today. Is it really so immoral that these folks are compensated for not only their ability, but also for their service to the sport and breed itself?
You insinuate that an event such as this will lead to rampant corruption and scandal throughout the sport. Does the fact that Tiger Woods receives millions of dollars for hitting a ball into a hole with a stick corrupt the millions who do this every Sunday?
I fail to see how this event circumvents the SV or any other Schutzhund organization. Carlos makes no claimes that this is a "sactioned" event. The scores will not be recorded in the scorebook. Indeed the judges are not acting as agents of their respective organizations. If Shaq and Michael Jordan played one-on-one, using a NBA ref for 10K, would they be circumventing the NBA?
I think that we are incredibly fortunate to have the chance to see some of the greatest competitors in the sport today, all at once in our back-yard. Hell, look at some of the previous posts, people from as far away as Russia, are asking about the availablility of a DVD recording this historic event. I think that we should all thank Carlos for making such an event possible.
Finally, I find the personal attacks against Carlos rather laughable. I have personally met the man. He is indeed sincere about the his love for the sport and breed.
Best Regards,
Art Shaw

Under that rock you crawled out from under? Listen, NOW, Speaknow. I have a few things to say.
The premises of which this illustrious event was born from was from Carlos Rojas's generous mind. I feel priviledged that I was one of the first people that he shared his idea with. He woke up one morning a few weeks ago and decided that he wanted to do something for the devoted competitors in the sport. He expressed to me that he felt that the really devoted trainers and competitors did not get enough recognition for what they put into the sport. He wanted to do something special and different. BUT, that the focus was to be giving the long deserved recognition to the greats in the sport. The cash prize is just a little incentive. Something more than just a trophy
Maybe our organizations can learn a few things from this. I'll never forget seeing a photo of three AWDF competitors standing with their dogs and what appeared to be three empty plates. Those empty plates were the trophies? Is that what you give someone who has worked in training his or hers dog for years to place in the AWDF? That picture looked like three poor fellows with 3 hungry dogs and 3 empty plates. If that's trophies, that's demoralizing. Is that incentive for me to get to the podium at the AWDF? Come on, It costs us thousands of dollars to get to go to the National Championship events For what? To get presented an empty plate or a $50.00 trophy. I'll have you know that the trophies alone for this event are $2,500.00. The catalog will cost double that if not triple that. Is Carlos doing this for the money? He does not have a clue if it will be profitable. It can turn out to be a loss, financially. Carlos is doing what our organizations should have been doing instead of "having meetings to plan on new meetings".
I told Carlos that there would be those negative people out there. You, were the first real one to emerge Speaknow! Who are you? Are you with USA? AWDF? Oh, that's right ............you're into those showline things. I have one of those too. What a mistake! Pissed off that you did not do this gig? You should put on the next one for triple the prize$ as you said. Then Carlos could get to show a dog and be the GREAT ONE that he is.
He's giving you all a gift and you question his ethics and morals. How dare you? Now go back under that rock before I get my "TRUNK MONKEY on your ass.
