Myracle

by Myracle on 30 July 2010 - 03:07

We've got mostly Bing and Rainier this year.  I'm close to asking our CSA to please stop including cherries; I think we've eaten our fill for the season.

Mild winter = surplus crop.

But I was kinda bored with the Fox News story so I took a shot in the dark.

Remember.............    I think it's time to call it a day ?

I like Jack, the movie was so so.

Suppose then that another public institution took the position that homosexuality was immoral.  Would you be of the same opinion?  I'm not sure the DSM definitively catagorizes sexual behavior as it does schizophrenia.  My whole disagreement with the school's position goes back to it being a public institution.  She has performed at an acceptable level in her classes, but refused to do remedial work recommended by the school such as attending diversity training or a gay pride parade.  Your examples of the doctor and the atheist don't follow logic.  It would be more like a doctor in med school being kicked out because he would not perform abortions, or he believed in physician assisted suicice, or believed in drug legalization.  The atheist is crashing a private party.  Again, this is a public school.  You say that she could attend a private, religious school, but I contend that a public school must be blind to a student's personal beliefs.  I'm all for the rights of the private school that fired the teacher who admittedly became pregnant before she was married.  We could argue over whether or not it was the best choice, but it was certainly within their rights.

What ever happened to DR?

The APA has stated its position on homosexuality repeatedly.  Namely that it is not a choice, nor is it a mental illness.
Transsexuality, also known as Gender Identity Disorder, is listed in the DSM, with very clear-cut criteria.

While one could argue wiggle room on homosexuality [although the APA will revoke the license of any practicing psychiatrist who engages in "reparative therapy" to "cure" homosexuality], perhaps, the DSM is clear that transsexualism is a mental disorder, thus by their standards, it is equivilant to saying schizophrenia is a choice.

Now, if you want to argue that the APA is wrong for establishing those criteria, fine.
But that's not the school's fault.  Its the APAs.
