Akaay, he had high achievement in sport and was competed a lot, don't know what else would qualify a dog for 'sport dog' . Anyway, my remarks were based solely on the video posted of him here. There is no distinction in the actions towards and by the dog than any usual sport dog. Probably because of his extensive training for sport. That's not a knock, just an observation.

During my travels in the CZ, when interacting with old-timers (including experienced decoys), Gero z BZ, along with earlier dogs like Cordon An-Sat, Titus z PS etc., were always referred to, with a great deal of respect. And that respectful tone did not pertain to their sporting skills !

Aykaay: 'And the extensive nature of the training that Gero underwent, might have caused him to grab the sleeve in the video etc.'

^^^^^^^^^^ none of that information is available in the video of gero referenced in this discussion.
The video was posted to demonstrate a hard dog....it failed as such.

I think the video was posted, since that is the only known video of Gero.....as far as I know. But yes, I agree that the video could give the mis-impression of an IPO type sleeve-oriented dog.

Only one video of a world famous dog that impacted the breed seems implausible. If true, then why use that particular vid with the intention to demonstrate what it fails to demonstrate?
'Mis-impression'...lolol. It's there multiple times of the dog attacking the motionless sleeve on the ground.
He was trained to bite the sleeve, and that was his focus. Doesn't mean he was genetically programmed to be a sleeve sucker, lol.

LOL recently a dog bred hundreds of females without any videos of him working, so nothing is new.
these old type czech dogs are mislabeled by many people, because they Judge with an IPo or points eye.
The hardest biting dogs I had on the sleeve came out of Gero,
did they show flashy obedience, score points and are they famous, no but good dogs anyway,
the best dogs I have right now, the hardest and the strongest also come from czech lines where there are not a lot of videos, from,
but he, how many videos are there from other dogs back then, when we see video from Fero and Timmy we all break down crying and dont understand why anybody ever bred to these dogs

He bit the sleeve just like Fero, Timmy, or other dogs did. People back then didn't concern themselves with grips.

The video was posted to demonstrate what hard dog looks like in action. I asked the poster of the video how that is demonstrated by that video. Because clearly his claim was not verified by the video.
I never said gero was shit, All I said was that was a poor choice for an illustration of what hardness looks like in a dog. That was hardly the best example of what a 'hard dog' looks like when he is focusing on the sleeve ....unless killing the sleeve takes a 'hard dog'. And he backs away from the decoy!...horrors!
As for no other videos ever taken gero, he was born in the mid 1990's ....not the mid 1890's. So there were many models of video recorders and cam-corders available which can be digitized and put on utube. Lots of other dogs from the same erra that werenot as famous as gero that were recorded.
Of course gero was a killer dog, otherwise he would not be being defended for that crappy video....that makes him look like any other sport dog of today.

Agree I,m not impressed on that video, but its just second in lifetime from that dog, I don,t know him also not his offspring
