Morning pod,  I'd hoped this thread would vanish overnight! LOL

Never, in all my days have I known so many different things (whippets, bedlingtons, borzois, rulers, FISH, hills, etc) used to describe the back of our breed.

Given that we, (the goodies) LOL have the Germanic type of dog and the others (the badies)  don't... we're never going to agree.  I see very, very few roach backs around.  I know you "see" them, pod because you think that Jim's bitch has one....

There's nowhere to go from that!

Mornin Missbeeb :)

The fish, rulers Whippets etc haven't been used to 'describe' the GSD back, no just used as tools for comparison or analysis.  I just see a roach back as described in the definition, and that's a definition common to all I've so far read, and that is that there is a convex curve in the back between withers and croup.  Are you saying that Jim's dog does not have this curve?

Absolutely!  There is no curve!

The muscle, either side of the spine will be very well developed, as in most German show dogs.  Someone wrote a very interesting and clear article on this, but can I remember who?  No!

Jim,I can only go on the one photo as that is all I have seen of her, and I do see a curve.  I do though believe that if you say she does not have a curve in a normal unposed situation, then that is so too.  The spinal column is a flexible structure.

Could you possible post a larger copy of that photo to the thread, if you don't mind having a line drawn along the back to illustrate the curve?  Thank you.

Hi Pod
The two most detrimental conditions facing Borzois are bloat and metabolic bone disease, they have a higher incidence of bloat than most deep chested breeds.
Re the Bedlington, apart from liver, kidney problems they also suffer from Patella Luxation.   Other breeds such as Frenchies, English Bull Terriers and English Bulldogs that ask for a roach near the pelvic area suffer from compressed spinal conditions.
Not sure exactly what you mean about the first Q, I should think if them two breeds in particular had a crouching hind quarters they rear end would be touching the floor!
Jims picture is too small for me to view adequately to answer the second question.
Maybe you can post a pic of your dog standing?
