Duke - I taught the flip finish just like the black dog in the pics. Why? Because it's different and my dog is capable of it, plus it looks neat when done properly.

It does look neat Teeth Smile!!  don't  know if my dog is athletic enough to do that or not. She's big and low stationed, so it might be hard for her to turn. She can jump high, I'm just not sure  where or how she would land LOL. I don't normally teach the left finish, use the right finish to heel, but did teach her the left one for rally.  Ever wonder what "normal" people do for entertainment?

Blitzen - when my recently-found training buddy saw my dog do the flip-finish for the first time, he was taken by surprise and remarked that it was neat. My dog has springs on his legs, he really seems to enjoy doing that finish and it makes our routine a little bit different. I'm not thinking that we'll get any more points for it, and run the risk of losing points if not executed correctly, but what-the-heck, it's fun to do with him. I will have to consider teaching the normal around behind finish for the protection escort portion though, lol.

Koots, he doesn't need to do the around behind finish for 'pick up for side transport'. You can do like I trained his grandsire...Pick him up in front of decoy...step left in front of decoy with dog heeling, stop just past decoy, and reverse into position.( looks like three point parking) Dog will be in proper place and is never out of sight = less opportunity to get in trouble.

Yes Joan,  that is one way that I have seen recently on video, didn't see it 20 years ago.   That's an option for sure.
