anyone got any good clips of a neat flip finish?

been playing with it and the dog necesarily has to do a few butt scoots to get from my centre line in front to an in-line postion at the side (heel).

could not find any clips of finished dogs.

A large breed dog cannot do the flip finish you are looking for. Think about it.

Is this what you are looking for?

"A large breed dog cannot do the flip finish you are looking for. Think about it."

I may be missing what he's asking for but am not sure if this is true.  Jagger jumps straight up (essentially eye level with me), twisting in the air and lands in the basic position.  Can get a little dicey if you have a magnetic ball on your left shoulder.

The flip finish is done entirely in the air. The dog jumps straight up from a straight front sit and turns 180 degrees while in the air landing in a seated position at heel. If that's what your dog is doing, I'm not sure I'd encourage it. Too much chance of an injury to a big dog IMO.  We already ask a lot of these performance/sport/protection dogs. I feel about flip finishes the same way I feel about frisbees - don't like them.

I've never seen a big dog do that, have seen  toy and medium sized dogs do it at AKC trials. Most teach the swing finish when they want their dog to finish left. I  don't usually understand what vk is asking, so I might not understand what he's looking for. He might be looking for a trick rather than a proper OB finish.

My compliments to both trainers and videos;  beautiful obedience and focus.  Thx for sharing;  keeps me in touch with how much work I have to do with my boy.  Nan

What you're describing, Blitzen, is pretty much what my dog does.  I guess twisting might have been a bad choice of words on my part because he isn't so much actually twisting his body as he is launching in such a way that he's in the turn from the moment he leaves the ground.  Hard to describe...maybe I'll try to get video this weekend.  I've never considered it terribly dangerous for an athletic dog and Jagger is not small...87 lbs. lean at the vet the week before last.  I would certainly consider the long bite a lot more dangerous in that respect or his leaping from the top of the A-frame which he has, thankfully, learned not to do as much.

Many years ago one of the best and most athletic dogs I ever bred was retired from his  freighting career in Alaskan when he suffered a compression fracture of his spine that happened when he jumped high into the air to retrieve a frisbee and landed "wrong". Something he had done many times before. I don't ask my dogs to do that sort of stuff anymore Confused Smile.
